New bathroom extractor won't switch off!

Hi all. hoping someone can set me straight.
I replaced a noisy old extraction fan in my bathroom today. I bought a Manrose gold 'basic' wall mounted fan from B&Q here
I installed it and away it went, trouble is, it wont stop when i turn the light off. It is just constantly on. I left it for well over an hour before swapping the 2 wires around (doesnt use the earth) to see if that made a difference, but to no avail.
Am i missing a trick here? Did i buy one that is just constant? I thought they all timed out.

according to screwfix, it does have a timer. max 20 minutes.Get some gorm.0 -
How many 'wires' do you have (excluding the earth?)
The old fan wasn't on a pullcord was it?0 -
oops, didn't notice the OP's link!
Odd, though as there must be a permanent live only to the fan.0 -

Ormus, it looks like the one the OP bought does not have the timer as the model in B&Q is the 'MG100S', going by the manual on screwfix if it had a timer it would be the 'MG100T'
OP are the any other connections in the fan or is it just the 'L' and 'N' also did your old fan have a pull cord on it or was controlled by the light also?0 -
Hi.
The old fan had 3 wires going into it (L, N, T(earth?)), the new one only has a requirement for 2 (L&N). The old fan was controlled by the light. I am thinking that perhaps this 'earth' wire is infact the clever one...?0 -
aye cpt kidd, that seems to be correct.
i didnt look at the model numbers properly.Get some gorm.0 -
Did the old one switch off with the light or after a delay of 10 minutes or so?
Was the old fan connected to the earth in the twin and earth?
Unless the old fan had a humidistat then I'm guessing that the wiring is wrongly connected with earth wire actually used as a switched live.
If it is connected like this then it should be rewired. With the red (or brown) disconnected from the permanent live and connected to the switched live from the light and the earth properly connected to earth. Otherwise a new three core and earth cable should be used.0 -

Yes the T is the timer switched live input, and sounds like the earth is being used as a switched live.
Has the new fan just the live and neutral terminals?0 -
Yeah, just L&N.0
