Selling gold?

We have a few old rings, chains & a gold watch from various now deceased relatives. We'd like to sell these now & use the money for some new jewellery which will actually be worn sometimes.
Not sure whether it's best to take them to a jewellers, Cash Converters, postal place, pop up or what?
Also watch is 22 carat swiss, diamond set - might this be better sold to a jeweller rather than gold place?
Thanks for any help - would like to obviously get a fair deal on this stuff & not in a mad rush for the cash.

Taking a decent watch for scrap value to cash converters etc is a fools errand. They are going to pay scrap value only. It has intrinsic value as a watch. Not sure where you are based, but with decent stuff you would be better placed going to one of the leading auction house (Phillips, Sothebys, Bonhams etc - even if you are not London based, they have offices in many provincial cities.) They will give you a decent appraisal and as they are auctioneers and not dealers, they will give you its open market value, not a dealers value, which are 2 very different things.
I sold some gold last year and after much research, was offered the best price by these people

They are bullion dealers. Most of the companies you see advertising for gold are just middle men who ultimately sell their gold to a bullion dealer. By selling directly to a bullion dealer, you will get the price they pay to the middle men that sell it to them, which is significantly higher than the places on the high street etc. They aalos paid out very quickly - within a couple of days I think straight into my bank account.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -

Friend of mine went to 3 jewellers to get some prices from them which ranged from £230-£280 for scrap 9ct gold rings etc.He decided to sell on e-bay and sold them for £448-00. He had messages from people offering to buy them beofre the auction ended ,all offered more than the jewellers.....
Any 18-22ct with stones in I would get checked valued properly buy auction houses.0 -
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies.
