How do you deal with your cold?

  • Thanks everyone for the advice so far. Slept a little better last night, but have got up this morning to it being on my chest, and practically no voice (hubby will be pleased lol). If I am still like this later will phone work to say I'll not be in tomoro. I have to let them know ASAP as my shift will have to be covered (which I really dislike doing). Great, Christmas week, so much to do and I feel like poo :(

Any advice on what to do when pregnant and can't take medication?

I've been drinking hot tea with fresh lemon and honey in it, along with linctus. And of course drinking plenty of fluids. Still feel terrible though!

  • I take Vicks First Defence as soon as I detect a hint of sniffle and then I either use Sudafed or Lemsip if that doesnt work. Olbas oil at night and lots of lounging around on the couch :-)

As soon as I feel something coming on I get on the first defence spray. It is vile but seems to kill the cold before it takes hold. http://www.vicks.co.uk/first-defence/nasal-spray/

If I don't get to it in time I take loads of vit c and feel sorry for myself snottering all over the place. I take nytol at night as it is works as an anti-hystamine so as well as knocking me out it dries up the snot.

I would also recommend First Defence spray,or Boots own version of it,which is probably the same thing

I used this for the first time a couple of months ago and I was a bit sceptical about it,but it stopped a cold in it's tracks,I was very impressed with it.

I pour lemonade into a mug, microwave it for 2 mins, pour some lemon juice in, a drop of brandy(or whisky) and a spoonful of honey. I stir it round and drink it while it's hot. Then I'm told to go to bed and keep all the covers on me and "sweat it out". Colds only seem to last about 3 or 4 days if I do this on the first day.

  • Interesting reading this read. I am currently choked with the cold, eyes & nose streaming, sneezing all the time, touch wood so far it's not gone into my chest.

I'm working xmas eve and xmas day, am dreading it, but can you imagine phoning in sick ? :-(

Hope everyone feels better soon and that you all have a fun & healthy xmas

    regards

Sleep as much as possible, take long hot baths, drink lots of hot tea and breathe in the steam when it's just boiled, olbas oil, spicy garlic broth.
