Boris Johnson was just on the radio saying that due to the actions of the tube drivers, LUL are now stepping up the research and investment into driverless trains. Wonder what ASLEF and the RMT will have to say?

Makes sense. Plenty of mass transit systems around the world that operate driverless.I'm retiring at 55. You can but dream.0

Eventually all unionised industries prices themselves out of the market. This is just another example where the costs of researching and installing new technologies is more than covered by the improved efficiencies and staff reductions.
It's the same reason we have robots in car factories, computerised printing machines in newspapers and outsourcing in government departments.0 -
Driverless trains - how will that work?
(A bit like Singapore, DLR, etc, one supposes...)0 -
I think they may have done better just keeping their heads down and taking the 50k salary rather than making a fuss about boxing day, Olympics etc. You can push things just a little to far for your own good.0

They will be okay. LU will take years to implement an automatic train network and when they finally do the existing drivers will either be made redundant (and they have very generous packages in place for this) or will simply transfer to a new position of 'safety officier'0 -
Whilst the apparent greed annoys me it does just seem like a group using the 'rules' to enrich themselves at the expense of the majority - rather like the 'private sector' bankers....I think....0

If Boris wants to look at driver less trains, I suggest he pops down the train depot on Boxing Day.
I suspect there will be a few there0
