Can I use a shader and toner on recently dyed hair?

Hello!

I had my hair dyed a lovely ruby red/plum two weeks ago today. It was a semi and I had it done in my hairdressers. As you probably know red fades pretty quick but ive only washed it 5 times (double wash each time) and its fading to a light fiery red.

I want to 'refresh' the colour and have bought 2 sachets of wella shader and toners in rich mahogany, it looks pretty close to the dye I had put on.

Does anyone have any idea what will happen if I use these?? Ive emailed my hairdresser but she's pretty useless at replying to emails/texts etc.

Fingers crossed it will take it close to the original shade, it's only for a night out tomorrow lol!

Thanks as usual! :)

I can't comment on what it will do to your existing color, although it will probably damage your hair more...

I just wanted to say be careful using rich mahogany! I thought the same thing when my ruby color was washing out, and used some...it was much more brunette and a lot darker then I wanted, and it left my hair with different shades for ages. Not even my hairdresser could even it out...I do have light blonde natural hair, but at the time it was dyed a rich plum.

I found that the shampoo and conditioners for red hair worked best, and always restored mine to full colour - I got them from Superdrug or Boots. The 'treatments' were really good too.

shaders and toners do very little, i imagine you'll end up with a brown or orange tinge. can you get a semi in the same colour or a toning shampoo?

I think i'll leave it then guys!

It's a nice colour now, but it looked gorgeous when I had it done...

Ive been using loreal elvive colour shampoos and conditioners for years now. But It hasn't helped a great deal I think this time.

Elle. can I ask what shampoos and conditioners you mean in particular?

    Thanks! :)

Have you tried Botanics Radiant Red shampoo (on offer at boots at the moment 2 for £5). I used to use it when I had red hair to keep the colour refreshed and I always had good results.
