How long does a credit card company have?

To take money out of my account, say I bought an item in December and its not yet gone through my credit card is there a cut off time like there is for chqs I write?

I think that once you have made the contract there will be no time limit. Some people think that cheques expire, the same applies, there is no limit.0

I always thought chqs were 6 months, so there is nothing stopping TESCO for example not to process any card payments for a day and then to put them through 5 years later?0
