Feedback is nice. So is trifle.

Actually, that's all feedback is, too.

Trifling. Yet the amount of time and energy spent here and on eBay's own community boards on the wearying woeful topic of feedback, you'd've thought the whole point of buying and / or selling was to 'earn' feedback. Rather than to conduct an online transaction.

Feedback is a record of a transaction, not a beauty contest to find Mister or Miss Convivial. If neither party wishes to contribute a transaction record, or only one party feels like it. . . so what???

(PS: As for the moron referred to in the OP's post, just report him. But if he's a PowerSeller or a major income earner for eBay, it won't make any difference. Because though it seems half the eBay 'population' is obsessed with the feedback system dreamt up by eBay, eBay itself is only obsessed with money. . .)

Hey dude, its not arguing if the other person is wrong and I'm right :D I wouldn't mind meeting SC in person, its a whole lot easier to point out utter stupidity, incoherent arguments and 'attempts' at being condescending that way!

Personally, I always leave feedback for all my transactions buying and selling (although I dont buy and sell loads) If a buyer does not leave it I am more concerned that they didnt receive the goods. After a month I would delete it from my ebay, but always leave feedback for them.
Its such a shame that anyone would write like that after being asked to leave feedback, NO would be sufficient.

Not wishing to stir an argument, because here on MSE we don't have 'em, only civilised agreements to differ, ;) but I think Snooze has been suffering from the same syndrome that's claimed so many of the rest of us.

It's called Feedback Fatigue, symptoms of which are an uncharacteristic irritability whenever the blasted subject is raised, underpinned by a deep annoyance that eBayers keep falling for this nonsense -- because attaching too much importance to feedback is exactly what eBay wants everyone to do.

That way, they won't have time to bother about all the infinitely more serious stuff that goes on.

Unless you're an illiterate £350,000 per annum PowerSeller who has the clout to get umpteen negs and neutrals removed from your record at the same time as you're extorting £5 a day "payment penalties" which kick in on the very first day of the transaction -- see posts elsewhere on MSE -- then really, neither feedback nor eBay itself counts for very much at all.

People who take the hump when people ask them to leave feedback are just being petty and a wee bit bitter. People's reputation and existance as buyers and sellers on Ebay depend on feedback.
If someone politely reminds you you haven't left feedback and asks you to do so it's .hardly the end of the world. A lot of people who are new to Ebay are keen to get some postitve feedback and so increase other users confidence in dealing with them.
Actually sitting down at your keyboard to reply with a "No I won't leave you feedback" would expend the same energy as "Quick payer, many thanks!". So why get bent out of shape and be rude towards someone. The other thing about ebay is that what goes around comes around. The rude ones will get their comeuppance.
One thing you could do is wait the til the three month period for leaving feedback is almost expired and then leave them a suitable feedback on the final day. A neutral with "Good transaction, but doesn't leave feedback" would get them riled if they had been bitter enough to send you a rude e-mailin the first instance. This would bug them because, hopefully, they wouldn't notice and would be out of time for getting you back.

Agreed re petty & bitter. Actually, the term "pig ignorant" comes to mind.

But I wouldn't leave any FB which mentions, um, not leaving feedback. Equally accurate, yet potentially much more damaging to the seller, would be:

*Transaction OK but be warned: seller's communications are ignorant & offensive*

More buyers will be put off by that than any harping on about delayed FB.

(And it should surely be a delayed Neg, not a Neut: FB is supposed to reflect the quality of the trading experience overall, and if I'd been sworn at like the OP, I certainly wouldn't feel neutral about it. As for the neg, the seller has no hope of getting it removed: his own words are his own indictment.)

Sorry but that is still a load of crock. It doesn't matter how you dress it up you're still screaming "I'M DESPERATE FOR FEEDBACK!!!!!!!!" and it's so pathetic. Why does it bother you so much?

    SC

    :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I'm sure if I didn't bother sending emails to let people know I'd dispatched their item and to expect it they'd not be bothered either. It's not so much the feedback gain, for me it closes the transaction as they've received it safely, so I can then remove them from the list and get rid of any post office reciepts etc. I've had a member report me to paypal for not receiving their item and wanting a refund even though they never contacted me by email or using ebay, ages after a listing. I'm therefor weary.

Whats more pathetic is your blatent disregard for respecting others with your replies, if you dont like the practise of others fair enough, that's not the issue. You're certainly the one wanting attention around here.

In this modern age of spam, nuisance emails and people / companies pestering you to do something, look at something or buy something, I can perhaps understand if people sometimes snap and retaliate. After all, the person who hassles them for feedback may be the only 'human' who has sent them an email that day. There's no point sending an angry email to a spammer's false email address, or to a computer that sends out marketing mails.

This doesn't make abusive emails acceptable; but if it makes one person think twice about asking for feedback (which is OPTIONAL) - because the email they're sending is UNNECESSARY to your wellbeing, the buyer's wellbeing or the future of the world, and heaven knows it's not necessary to your ebay account - GOOD.

You are able to leave feedback for a MINIMUM of 90 days after the transaction date. In practice, people have been known to leave feedback up to seven months after the transaction.

codger, I agree in some respects. But leaving a neg for not corresponding very well is a complete no no (although offensive, rude e-mails are another thing entirely). Feedback should be confined to the quality of the goods and how quickly they were received or paid for, it should be a statement of fact with no room for personal feelings on how friendly the exchanges were. Some people have hundreds of sales a week to deal with and may not have the time to keep feedback up to date. If they are offensive or rude I'd suggest reporting them to Ebay.
