Fast payment mistake and DMP..can anyone help?

Hi, only asking for advice as I wont be sleeping tonight and wondered if anyone may be able to help.

Im on a DMP and my natwest bank accounts (one with a 2k od on) have all been taken over by natwest credit management dept so CS cant help me and they are not open until the morning :(

A family member has just sent me a large sum of money (for a mortgage payment) into my old natwest account, not actually the one with the OD on it but still held by credit services I guess as I cant access it online anymore.

My question is will they give me it back???? Lloyds have told him that as its a fast payment its out of thier hands and they cant recall it, any idea if this is correct? Sounds a bit dangerous if it is regardless of my situation? I dont care if it takes them a few weeks to recall it (itll mean mortgage being paid late obviously!) but I need that money!! Can Natwest keep it?????

I hope someone has some positive experience on here.... :(:(:(

  • Are you with a specific company for your DMP or is it managed by yourself?

If it's managed by CCCS, Payplan etc, then ring them first thing in the morning and explain the situation, I had this happen with me and Barclays, CCCS phoned them and the money was able to be transfered to another account.

Thanks :) thats made me feel better!! Will I get in hot water with CCCS as Im getting some money paid to me? Perhaps I can say it was for my partner. What a nightmare so close to xmas :/

Thanks again for your help OP, so quick too! :)

  • It shouldn't in theory land you in hot water as it's just a one off payment, which you could say was for your partner, but just be open and honest with CCCS.

I told mine that I had to replace my dishwasher (which I did) and my Mum paid for it but sent it to the account that has my OD on which I couldn't touch, it was supposed to go into my safe basic account. I just told CCCS who I'd spoken to at Barclays and what they said. They rang them and I received a phonecall from Barclays later that day asking me for the account details I'd like to transfer the money into.

I hope it gets sorted though, let us know how you get on xxx

  • Yes I had thought of that, OH is a builder so i'll probably just say it was for some work he'd done and as 'in my budget' he contributes 700 if I dont get it to him he wont be able to and I wont be able to meet my commitments...

Fingers Xd and thanks again, will keep you posted. Merry xmas! :) x
  • I'm not sure I'd lie. Why can't you say that it was for a mortgage payment? Is there a problem with your mortgage payments as you should be able to afford them being on a dmp? If you can't then you should advise your dmp provider as soon as possible so that they can adjust your dmp - whether this was a temporary one-off isue or a change of circumstances.

    Thanks :)

Its for another property, and although when CCCS took all my details they included it in my assets, but as its a straight rent in/out for the mortgage and bills on it I didnt go into it with them as it wasnt necessary.

Thankfully I spoke to the bank this morning (was up since 4am pacing and waiting for them to open...at 8!!) and all I had to do was fax them a letter from my brother explaining what he'd done and they have done a BACS transfer (which they told me would take 10 days!!) or I could have paid £23 for a chaps.
Would have been an expensive mistake...so decided to wait it out, at least its on its way!

So christmas is back on! :) Thanks for your help OPs, i'll sleep better tonight!!! :)
  • No problem, glad you got this sorted :) x
