Double Postings On My Credit File

Hi,
I ran into some difficulties some years back on splitting up with my ex, this left me in a bit of a situation with the Co-op Bank and led to my default on three accounts (Current, Loan & Credit Card) All three of these still sit on my credit file as from the bank but the same three are also sitting there as defaulted one month later from Equidebt so my record shows six defaults instead of three.
My question is can I or even should I do anything about this, my record since then has been perfect and the defaults will be five years old next month (I live in Scotland). Would I be better just leaving them all for the last year or is there a benefit in doing something now?
Many thanks in advance for any advice.

I am sorry I don't know much about this, I'm sure someone will pop along with some good advice soon

As far as I am aware only one person can have the debt. So for example if each debt was £1,000 you show as £6,000 where it should be £3,000 speak to the credit reference agency who you got your file from. You may need to clarify who owns the debt. If it was sold on the coop have no right to the debt.
Try using the below letter once you have confirmed who owned the debt

Dear Sir Or Madam
FORMAL COMPLAINT UNDER YOUR CONSUMER CREDIT ACT 2006 COMPLAINTS PROCEDURE
NOTICE TO CORECT DATA UNDER DATA PROTECTION ACT 1998
I note that you have [NUMBER] of defaults registered against me in relation to account XXX originally issued by XXX. This is against the guidelines issued by the information commissioner, and is an unfair practice.
Please take this as a request to correct data under the Data Protection Act 1998.
Please send me a copy of your complaints procedure as required by law, with acknowledgement of this formal complaint.
Yours Faithfully,
XXXX.
From point of the length of the debt I would recommend it, you have 6 six years from the date of the default, if you are going to do anything in the future I.e. apply for a phone, mortgage, credit card this will affect you. Plus it will look better with any creditors you already have at the moment.0 -
do defaults only stay on for 5 years in scotland?
I had one form Activ Kapital that was on from 2005 and fell off this year.0 -

I believe the default stays on your record for six years but the statute of limitations on the debt is only five years in Scotland.0 -
How does a default notice affect my credit file?
The fact that an account has defaulted is recorded on your credit file for six years, and will make it harder to obtain credit for that time. A credit agreement can only default once.
Creditors often talk about default notices in terms that make them sound like a serious threat. If you want to preserve a good credit rating they are a valid threat. But if you have a record of missed or late payments and are having trouble managing your debts, your credit rating will be affected already.

Just a wee update in that I contacted Experian who had the duplicates removed, they appear to have disappeared from CallCredit and just waiting for Equifax to do the same.0
