Self assessment - what counts as repairs

Hello,

I hope someone may be able to help me, I am doing my self assessment for the first time this year. I rent a property, and during the tax year 10/11 I had a new bathroom installed - this was due to the previous one being old, dirty and damaged by water leakage.

The bathroom installed is very basic as it is a rental property, and there are no new fancy features installed, ie it is "like for like" compared to the old one.

Is it possible to claim the cost of this as allowable repairs? Or does it count as improvements? I hope I may be able to claim it, as with the water leakage element I did not have much choice but to install a new bathroom (ie no point ripping everything out to fix the leak then putting old stuff back in again)

Would be grateful for any help.... many thanks

To me, given that it is a straight like for like, it's a no-brainer it is claimable.
