Job Centre Mileage Allowance

The Job Centre don't know the answer to this question!
I am going to claim petrol allowance for travel to 3 interviews this next week and I went to the Job Centre on Friday to organise the paperwork. This is now done but they won't know until next Thursday what the pence per mile is!
Does anyone know the answer please?

Hi
You are talking about Travel to Interview Scheme (TIS). It is available in certain circumstances for help with the travel cost of interviews outside of the normally expected travel to work area. This obviously varies across the country given that some areas are urban and some are rural. Public transport obviously varies accordingly so there is no hard and fast distance as a minimum distance to qualify.
The mileage rate is 25 p per mile, however don't necessarily expect your mileage to be automatically re-imbursed.
You are only re-imbursed to the cost of the cheapest and most reasonable route. AA / RAC routefinder is a common method of confirming mileage.
Whenever these decisions have to be made, train services, coach and mileage are compared. Whichever is the most reasonable is the one that there - reimbursiment is made upon, even if this is not the method used.
EG Travel to an out of town business complex may not have a direct public transport route so Mileage is reasonable. An interview in a city normally has a rail or bus link so depending on the public transport timetables, the cost may be limited to the cheapest public transport alternative, even if a car journey was made.
If you travelled 100 miles, that's £25.00, however if a public transport method is could have reasonably been taken, and that would have cost, say £7.00, your refund will be only £7.00.
The TIS scheme is also not meant to be used as a regular option. Yes, it is there to assist Jobseekers in the costs of interviews, but if it is used excessively, it can be refused.0 -

Sorry but thats not right it is never refused for excessive use it is used to get a jobseeker work so excesssive use is not a prohibitive factor. What is used is that the jobcente rings the employer to make sure the jobseeker is attending the said interview.0 -
Is the OP asking for details of mileage costs to a job interview or an interview with Job Centre staff at a Job Centre. I'm not entirely sure which OP is referring to.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
The link to the TIS guidance is here, although it looks like it is an older link than current guidance (perhaps just minor ammendments).

Limit on number of applications
82 Whilst genuine jobseekers should not be discouraged, anyone failing to get a job after 20 interviews, should be referred to an adviser. Each subsequent interview which requires TIS assistance should be considered carefully. Assistance may be refused unless it is thought the jobseeker has a reasonable chance of getting the job.
Here resteth my case your honour0 -
well i work for jc plus and never known anyone turned down for tis. And 20 applications come on!!!!!!!! obivously an adviser would need to look at it sorry:rotfl: If you know tis it has to be over an hour away obviously this costs and at 20 i hope someone would be looking carefully.0

Well, it is for job interviews!
The fact that I am on DLA means that they couldn't force me to go any other way than to drive!
The petrol is far cheaper than the bus - one interview is 44 mile round trip x 25p = £11. The bus fare is currently £13
The other two interviews are both 66 miles round trip.
Since I am only receiving £82 in IB and IS as it is, this going to interview is very expensive.
Thanks for your input!0 -

The jobs I am applying for are in the Financial Services sector - you don't just have ONE interview per post, you have FOUR!
The job I want also requires that part four interview is two full weeks training, taking an exam at the end of day 10, and if I pass I sign the contract of employment there and then.
Shaw Trust are paying my petrol for those 10 days since my interview on Monday is part two of the four.
These are 66 miles round trips for me0 -

Apparently I am covered by travel expenses for all interviews away from the town in which I live - mrs at the JC knew this bit!
I don't have the DLA money since it is taken for my Motability car.
I have to take the copy of the letter of invitation to interview, signed by someone at the place of employment - that is not a problem. I am not trying to diddle anybody out of any money here!0 -
Its different for jsa. No-one said you were trying to diddle anyone its just different for anyone who has a health condition on jsa in that they can have tis straight away and not do the hour pre-condition normally applied to tis!!!0
