Urgent help needed!

Hi all,
I need some help with a letter I have just received. Its addressed to my ex (he's asked me to open all his mail and call him if urgent) about his owned but rented out flat. The building is owned by a Management company and there is a service charge to pay every month for the upkeep of hallways ect. The letter is regarding non payment of said service charge, dating back to 09.06.2010, from a solicitors firm. It instructs him to pay the total of £2014.07 by 19th December which includes;

Interest charged; 1.71
Key fob; 5.00
Admin charges; 100.00
Admin Charges; 12.00
Service chrge; 575.00
Interest @ 4%; 30.63
service charge; 575.00
Interest @ 4%; 17.73
Admin charges; 575.00
Admin charges- legal referal; 20.00
Legal Costs; 85.00
VAT; 17.00

My name is on the tenancy agreement(as a landlord) as is his, as I helped him to find a tenant and did that side of it as he works 200miles away throughout the week. My name is not on the management conpanys books, only his name as its his flat with the mortgage also in his name. We have been seperated for 4months but during the time we were together I did the accounts and was supposed to be seeing that this charge was paid. For financial reasons this charge wasnt paid and we struggled to eat some weeks. As I agreed to see it was paid and my name is on the tenancy agreement as a landlord, where do I stand with possibly having to owe money? Should I give my ex some money towards this or is it not my debt? Could my ex take me to court for not paying? Im quite worried about giving him this letter as he has a temper and has been known to hit me on several occasions (why we seperated). I really appreciate any help, thank you very much. Nat.

    Please go over to the Housing forum as they can help you.

    This is urgent because I think the penalties for non-payment could be serious.

    Who is receiving the rent now?

    Do the management company know he is letting the flat out?
