It is against the law for opticians to deny their customers their perscription. You need to tell him that. I'm sure other MSE'ers will agree.
I wouldn't purchase any glasses online until you have your full perscription.
They usually give you a copy straight after your eye test. Seems odd he hasn't done so.0 -
his receptionist said she can't give it to me until he has signed it and as he had another client in he couldnt sign it until later in the day. I popped back for it but he had been 'too busy'. I asked her to post it to me but she hasnt. I feel almost too embarrased to keep on asking for it. Have decided to go to another opticians and try again.0

dont be embarrassed, you paid for it and can use the perscription any where you like0

Ring up & ask them to post it to you.
If they refuse / continue to give you the run around, quote the 'sale of goods act' - you paid to find out your eye prescription & not giving you what you paid for is a ilegal."This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0 -
I understand that the prescription does not give the full details necessary to buy glasses online. The inter-pupil distance is not included on a prescription - this is measured afterwards by the dispensing optician.0

yet another way to try and make you buy their stuff - insist - it is your right! An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T

I am no expert in property but have lived in many types of homes, in many locations and can only talk from experience.0 -
Yes, they'll try to charge you for the pupil measurement, so beware, especially if they have any indication you are buying specs elsewhere. Your rights are that you don't have to pay anymore costs.0

Thanks so much for all your posts. Have followed your advice and went back to the optician. He still hadnt posted or signed it so they still could not give it to me. I said fine, I'll copy it by hand and expect the real prescription in the post by the end of this week.
This is what it said:
Right: SPH -0.50
CYL +0.25
axis 180
Left: exactly the same as the right.
Pupil distance 60
Reading distance 56
Is this enough info to buy online?
Thanks

Yes, that's sufficient and your optician is either very busy or a very shrewd businessman who deny's his patients their legal prescription so that he can make more money from you.
Shame, if they were cheaper, people wouldn't resort to ordering from China for them. VisionExpress were funny with me when I asked for the PD, told them they were too dear and they gave me the details I needed.
Have purchased overseas for about 4 years now, no problems - saved, quite literally, hundreds of pounds.Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.0 -
just popped into vision express. i had an eye test from them and had a copy but was missing the pd measurement. went in to ask as was told they are under no obligation to provide it and tough.0
