Hello All,
I have started to work in a company for a short while, less than few month.
The place and the role is good but the salary is low, I think this is because of my experience however, I have brought the same skill as my predeccesor and have done quite a bit after moving in.
For example if the norm for this job is 32k, I am getting under 24k.
What do you think is the best way to go about this and how would you demonstrate that you are underpaid
thanks
But I think there are a few things that you should consider first,
I am assuming the £32k is the norm for your job on the market, what is it for your company - I know it may not be possible to find out but it may be that your company underpays all employee in which case they are unlikely to pay you significantly more.
Having been in this role for only a few months, it would be very difficult to ask for a pay rise (your employer might turn round and say you know what you were going to be paid before you signed the contract)
My personal advise would be to just keep demonstrating your commitment and go the extra mile when there is the opportunity and wait until the next pay review/ start of next financial year (it takes place in April for my company). They should then offer you a nice increase
Hope this helps:o0 -

well I know one of my team mates which has a lower position than me earns around 29-32k
I simply accepted the offer and said that after the trial period we can negotiate the salary
what is the norm of asking for increase, can u suddenly go from 23k to 30?
I am a bit annoyed that may should have negotiated at first but the job was more attractive but then when i realise what my collegue gets i got a bit annoyed
That is quite annoying, but has you team mate been in that role for long? It can happen that someone in a lower grade get a higher salary if they have been working in that role for years.
How long have you got left on the trial period? I am guessing and it is only a guess, they offered a low salary during the trial period so they can increase it after the trial period - ie if you performed okay, you get a small increase, if you performed well, then you get a bigger increase?
I know someone who had pay review twice a year and had a £2k pay rise each time so that's £4k, but don't personally known anyone who got more in a year0 -

well he has for few years but doesn't have the qualifications that I have. I have less experience but am point of contact in terms of skill and .. for the team so again anooying
I know how that feels, but if you accepted their offer you may be stuck with it.
If it were me, I'd wait until the trial period was over and then ask for a meeting with my manager. I'd explain that I know the others are on a good deal more money than me, and I'd ask what they can do about it.
No guarantee it will get you anything though. They may simply point out that you accepted the job and knew what the money was. If you push too much, you could lose the job altogether.
Good luck, whatever you do.0
