Best time for yellow stickers?

I had to nip to Morrisons late (7pm) a couple of nights ago and was amazed at the yellow sticker prices, I got some great buys.

So last night I went back at 8.30pm, but there was nothing left! Does anyone think there is a 'right time' to get the reduced goodies?

Seems to depend on the individual store, Mimi09. And even then, often depends on when they have somebody available to do the stickering. Even worse, some stores don't put the stickered stuff on public view - it all gets 'nabbed' by staff. For example, last week at 8pm I was pottering around Glos Cattle Market Mr. T's, to see a staff member going home, saying goodnight to her friend, arms piled high with several packs of stickered meat and ready-meals. Great, I thought, must be lots marked down - rushed to the section to find absolutely nowt! Some loaves of bread at 27p were my saviour. :(

Depends from 1 county/store to the next, you would see its already been covered if a search was done.

There isn't a 'right time', it all depends on if they have overstocked on items which haven't sold. They usually start marking down at about 3pm, then they only knock pennies off. The later you go the cheaper they get. Most stores have a deadline of 9pm, it gets chucked after that. If you leave it too late you may find there is nothing left because other shoppers have got there before you and snaffled it up. If staff go off duty around that time they are allowed to do their own shopping so they may be lucky to find some cheap items, they don't generally get priority or first pick.

I went last night at 7pm and left at 9pm and got loads of reduced. Full value of my shop was £75.13, I paid £31.59, that included a £4 off voucher. I could have been unlucky and got nowt, you take a chance whatever time you go.

What is the best time for yellow stickers on Sunday?
  • you'll have to stake out your supermarket to find out when they do the best reductions, each store is different

If we have loads of stock with the same date, the duty manager reduces them when the store is opened or if we have stacks of it - the day before! Hence why last month we had cauliflowers at 25p and 4 pack baking spuds for 15p.

I remember a few days before Christmas last year, our store had so much fresh party food that was stamped with ub dates of 22/23 December, that it was reduced down to 10p a pack! I bought £1 worth of packs of these. I then put in 7-9 of the tempura prawns, stuffed jalapeno peppers etc in foil and stuffed them in the freezer. I must have got about 12 teas out of this.

In my morrisons it is by chance, when they have a mo to reduce them, I was in there today at 12.30 and there was masses, people shoving to get to them but then again other times the yellow stickers are not that many but better reductions to eac hitem, no set time

  • I sometimes do the second markdowns and I usually have to check if my kidneys are still there by time I finish doing them.

    Vultures I tell you.

At the Mr M's five mins away they seem to only reduce things by about 10 or 20p. :(
