Mortgage Advisor (career)

Hi everyone firstly new to the site so sorry if ive posted this in the wrong section.

As the thread title gives it away, im currently reading and going to take exams for CeMAP. Just wanted your advice on progressing to such career plus on how easy it is to find a job once CeMAP is completed. I do understand how the housing market is slow at the moment however there are people still selling and buying houses.

My main objective once ive passed is to work for bank or a mortgage broker such countrywide mortgages, where i can also get my competency status.

Thanks guys

usually estate agents are crying out for MAs so I would start applying for jobs even though your qualification isnt quite completed yet. Having said that, you know the state of the housing market, have you tried new homes sites and also banks have MAs, so you could try those as well. It will be some time (if ever) the housing market returns to its former status, I for one dont think it will ever be the same and I have had over 20 years in the industry.

Good luck with your qual. and future exams and think about other FS quals for broadening your employability.

Hi Nibz, How far have you got with the studying?

You do not actually need to have CeMAP to be hired by Countrywide, however you will need to show them that you are a good salesman. I would expect Connells/Sequence to be the same. Both firms are a real pain in the !!!! to work for with the sale more important than the client. However, you will need to start with one (or similar) of these to reach "Competent" status.

Once you have a piece of paper saying you are competent then your career prospects will really start to open up. Also, this will take about 2 years I reckon, possibly quicker if your line manager doesnt hold you back, which IMHO will co-incide nicely with the housing and mortgage market being worth operating in!!!

Working for a corporate EA is not pleasant, at all, but if you consider it paying you dues and part of a bigger plan it is bareable!

Your other option is to work for a bank, however I couldnt tell you how good or bad that is having only been employed as a Mortgage Consultant by Estate Agents.

    Good Luck
