Comet refused price match against Currys!!

Comet.co.uk have refused to price match a Motorola Xoom tablet against Currys.co.uk last week, even though I met ALL of the criteria laid out in their price match promise. The price match promise can be found quite easily on their website.

The reduced price from Currys is only applied when you go through to the checkout, which the Comet Sales Team Leader used to justify his refusal. After refusing to grant the reduction, he hung up the phone on me as he stated that the conversation was going nowhere. He came across as an arrogant and insensitive BULLY, who wouldn't give the reduction because he just didn't want to. I guess it would have affected his target!!

I raised a complaint, but was given the following reasons for the refusal by their investigations team:

1. They don't price match against web sites - which is RUBBISH as this is clearly stated on their price match promise.
2. They don't price match against special offers - which is NOT stated on their price match promise, so they just made that up.

I wanted to use Comet as they are near to my house and I get an additional 10% discount (which they did not know about). Due to their disgusting and unfair behaviour, I went to John Lewis who price-matched Currys and gave me a 2 year warranty for free.


The Comet price match isn't worth the paper its written on, as they ignore it and make up their own reasons for refusal. They will do anything to not price match, which I feel is totally misleading and illegal.

I can see now why they were sold for £2 a few weeks ago, which I think was an over-valuation!! :rotfl:

I just want people to know about Comet's disgusting and unfair policy. I should not have been refused and they know it. They insult your intelligence by making up rules on the fly, just so that they don't have to do what they have PROMISED to to.

I was hoping to avail of the Currys Price Promise to purchase a Sony TV. I found the tv on the Comet website with a 20% discount.

I contacted Currys and was speaking to Mike Else (manager I'm told) to avail of the price promise. He informed me that they only match the price of the item, they don't match any discounts that can be applied!


Curry Price Promise states :

We're always confident about our pricing, but if you find one of the competitors listed below has the same product cheaper please do give us a call on 08445 61 62 63. We'll not only match the price, but we'll even beat it by 10% of the difference.

Clearly Comet does have the same product cheaper after applying the discount but Currys refuse to recognise this.I prefer to buy tv from Currys rather than online, as they have stores close to me-easier I imagine if something goes wrong.

I read that as the item price before any discounts.

It is very poor customer service but they are allowed to refuse to sell for whatever reason, though im sure the guy on the phones area manager wouldnt like an email stating one of his members of staffs isnt honoring their price 'promise' and is losing sales.

Currys now offering TV listed above with 20% off marked price. Why wouldn't they deal with me yesterday?? On buydigitaltv website TV was offered at £1303 from Currys - excellent price!!
