Take out my budgeting spending money every week. Don't buy things I can't afford!Mortgage Free aged 31 :j Thanks, Martin and MSE! :money:0

just spend what you have on essentials. I am not in debt but would imagine it is a gradual shift in your mindset. If you have cut up your cards, you are on the right path.0

The same way you coped when you were 17. Cash only. No cash, no buy.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

Yes I would worry too - especially for things like heating oil, car repairs, cesspit emptying etc if you've not had time to save for them.Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0

It is a worry, but it is 'doable', especially when you have no choice:(
But I have to ask, and this is intended in pleasantly jokey way..'cesspit emptying??!!LBM August 2011. DFD somewhere post [STRIKE]2025[/STRIKE]2022

Hi

Very good question. In the olden days I heard there was a form of credit but without cards: people shopped from the same shop and put everything on a book in form of credit, and each month they paid off.
In the high street shop, they paid when there was cash in hand.
Now in the past goods were dearer because of customs duties. One needed a monthly pay to buy few goodies. Today they are made dead cheap so we borrow to buy loads."I'll be back."0 -

That's certainly acceptable. I fess up though, some times I buy things I m not sure I need them either... or I buy things that do not do the job I need to do, or I need them badly but they do not last even a year (they are cheap stuff). Or I bought the wrong thing and realise it later."I'll be back."0 -
Evening. This will be my first month of coping with no credit card ever again hopefully. We are currently starting our dmp next month, I have opened two bank accounts and will be setting up a direct debit amount for the budget I have been given for clothes, car repairs, school trips, car tax, household repairs etc for two reasons, one so I do not spend on clothes because I now see we have a budget to do so but also so that I can save some money up for an mot, or unexpected expense.
If once I get to the end of the year have a bit more saved that I think I might need then I will add some ectra onto my dmp as a one off.
I really think if your dtermined to get debt free, then you need to realise that you do not need credit so then in turn worry about your credit file. There are ways for most things to be over come.
We have got a huge and I mean huge amount of debt that will hopefully be cleared at the worse in 6 years best in 3 then we will remortgage and move to a better house as our reward once we have saved again. If you want the rainbow you have to go through the rain.
DMP start jan 2012 hopefull finish march 2020

I take out my money each week from the bank and put it into little baby food jars, £20 petrol, £20 food, £15 for the kids etc. I allow myself to move money between the jars (eg if there is a bargain on at the supermarket or something), but i never allow myself to withdraw more money.
Not easy, especially as there seems to be constant sales on in the shops and loads of things i want, but i am in a mess, so it has to be done.
Hardly ever pay by card now, as it takes a few days to come out of my account and i lose track, so end up overdrawn.
