Car on Hire Purchase
Hopefully someone can help me here with some advice.
I bought a car almost 2 years ago on Hire Purchase. Had the car one year and took it to get it's second ever MOT.
When the MOT was being done, they took the chassis number from the VIN plate that is on the door pillar of the car. This did not match the registration of the car in the DVLA computer, we then checked the chassis numbers on the dashboard and the bulkhead of the car, they were the same but did not match the VIN plate.
I contacted the HP company (First Response Finance) regarding this and they said they would investigate, I also contacted the DVLA, VOSA, Police and insurance company and the dealer the car from.
Dealer wasn't bothered about it until it hit the local paper, DVLA, couldn't do anything and the guy from VOSA told me to rip the VIN plate off with a screwdriver.
After a month I was still wondering where to go, contacted a solicitor as well, who thought (at first) I had a great case (over the phone) when I went and saw them however this changed to 'keep the car for another year and then hand it back" !
Finance company then wrote to me stating that this fault was not grounds enough to return the car as it was fit for it's purpose. VOSA tried to tell me there may have been a mix up at the factory !! Yeah right I know there is a Rover 25 with a CX51 ??? plate running around whilst I have a Rover 45 SY02 ??? plate.
I have now had the car for 22 month so another 2 payments of £206 before the car goes back under the termination clause, but I feel that I am still being done on this. I will have paid £4944 by the time the car goes back and the car was only £5800 pounds when I bought it.
Can anyone advise me any further on this.

Sorry but what exactly is your point? That the car is stolen? That you shouldnt have been sold a card with non matching plates?
How exactly has this affected you and what losses have you suffered? I dont think you can expect any redress if you have not suffered any loss as a result of this.0 -
So what you are saying is that if you bought a car with two chassis numbers and a VIN Plate that didn't belong to the car you would be happy?0

What is your concern if you are giving the car back anyway? Or even if you were not - are you suggesting it has been cut and shut or something? It sounds to be functioning correctly and your complaint appears to be based on 3 metal plates, and had you not been aware of this you would have no grounds for complaint.
Have you HPI checked it? If nothing has shown up it might just be that a mistake was made at the factory.0 -
Beware of handing the car back under the termination clause as this may damage your credit rating and cause problems in getting further credit.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

I'm sorry, I don't apologise. That's just the way I am. Homer (Simpson)0
