  • Can't find any discount codes that you would enter on their website but:

You can certainly get a discount and cashback on Best Western Hotels booking through several websites that offer their hotels.

I have also noticed them on websites that offer packages e.g. last minute, red letter days, buyagift and even Groupon !

And of course SELECTED Best Westerns take part in the Tesco Clubcard scheme.

The Best Western site itself also offers its own discounts for specific types of bookings.

Was there a specific hotel you were after with them?

Yes, Monk Bar in York for my son, wife and 2 little girls to stay in because they are here for our daughters wedding, next October.

I rang the reservations this morning, a family room, 1 night, B & B £175, Room only £165, just seems an awful lot of money for 1 night

It may be 2 nights, ie, the night before, asked about that too and its just £10 cheaper.

  • That is on the high side .

Does it include a Friday or Saturday night ? (I can imagine York is a very popular city so they can charge a premium at weekends)

Also is it on or around half term i.e. last two weeks of October (some areas take half term a week earlier than others).

Those two things can bump up the price but a third party booking service should be able to get a bit of a discount (especially if you select a non refundable option and pay in advance).

See what www.bookingbuddy.co.uk comes up with if you put in your dates and requirements. It aggregates the best prices from about half a dozen third party booking sites but it might not have all the best discounts with it being 10 months ahead.

Yes, its definitely the Saturday night and maybe the Friday night, they have to get up from Oxford so it depends on School. But it may well be so if you say half term is those two weeks, the wedding is during that. Thanks for the link, I'll give it a try

Its a bit far in advance to get best price, they change according to demand.

consider a premierinn or travel lodge, much cheaper.

I imagine York is a popular destination and so this will affect any discount you might get as no doubt it will be packed during the weekends and especially half term weeks.

At least BookingBuddy will give you an "idea" of the discounts that are available from the sites that they check (although it might not be that much I'm afraid).

You are right - 10 months in advance is too far ahead for them to give the best discounts but you have also got to remember that if it is a weekend or half term in popular places than all hotels will be booked up very quickly :(

I don't know when the races are in York but that can seriously affect it too.

Even a Travelodge or Premier Inn room in a place like York on a Saturday night would be a lot more than their normal rates because they know they can get it.

A bit soon to book yet.

York is always very expensive on a Saturday night.

Where is the wedding actually taking place?

    2 things I would suggest.

Firstly there is a travelodge at Tadcaster which is always a bit cheaper, not very far out of York, then you can go and park on one of the York park and rides and leave your car there - parking and driving actually in York is desperate especially at the weekends. There is also another one on Hull Road which is at the other end of the city.

It depends really where the wedding is and wether you want to be right in the middle of York in which case you need to think about parking.

But the idea I think might be better is to book an apartment for a couple of nights. We have done this a few times and its worked better for us than b and bs which can be very variable - all of the apartments we have used have been very good quality. And also cheaper when there was 4 or 5 of us.

Anyway if you pm me I will give you some of my links. One flat we used a few times for birthdays and graduation events has some nice family mememories for us :D
