NHS pension/Private pension

I've paid into NHS pension for 10 years but I'm now going to work as a nurse abroad for about 5 years, what should I do whilst I'm away - pay a private one in Oz or Uk or is there anyway I can still pay into NHS one?

You cannot contribute to a UK pension scheme in this case. You cannot contribute to an ISA either. You would best be placed to investigate the options in Oz.

Make sure you keep up your state pension voluntary class 11 contributions - a major bargain at just over 2 quid a week

That's assuming you have less than 30 years NI conts - if you have that already, don't bother as you are already paid up under the new rules.

They did have a NHS forum on the pension site but I noticed that they had shut it down, how backward is that.

As I understand it you can leave the scheme and join within a year, after that you start another scheme.Buying extra pension is possible as long as you realise that the nhs will not contribute anything towards your extra contribution; this is worth considering as there may be better schemes on the market like (ns&i).I understand new zealand have a better scheme than australia when it comes to pension.chateau
