Just seen a semi premium rate 0843 218 xxx revenue sharing number being advertised which people are invited to call and listen for four minutes about joining a UK multi level marketing company.

I have seen niftyone's posts before on this site, and he/she obviously has a hatred for MLM/Direct Selling companies, so his/her views should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Wikaniko, the company using this system of a short information line has provided different options for the phone lines including the one most popular with serious distributors which is a 0800 number. This of course, is free to callers. The distributors pay a monthly fee for this and this is the same however many callers call. Nifty one, are you under the false impression that a 0843 number is a premium one?
I have used this system with another company and it works fantastically well to sort the curious from the serious; and it works well because anyone can do it, requiring no skills, therefore it is very duplicatable. Its a tried and trusted method used for decades.
As to the poster asking if MLM is illegal? No its not, but you may be confusing it with ''pyramid selling'' which is. If you'd like an explanation of the two, I'd be pleased to give it.

If anyones views should be taken with a pinch of salt Patrick should be . Notice here he does not declare an interest yet he is a Wikaniko Distributor, and is always on this site plugging the company.
No Patrick i am not suggesting 0843 is a premium rate i said it was a semi premium rate revenue sharing number. Also even calls to 0800 numbers usually cost money from a mobile unless you know a work around.;)0 -

Why would I need to ''declare an interest'', its quite obvious that I'm with Wikaniko and very proud of it. I scam nobody; I deliver products when they are ordered and tell people the truth about the business system we use.No Patrick i am not suggesting 0843 is a premium rate i said it was a semi premium rate revenue sharing number. Thats right and most people know that you pay for a 0800 number from a mobile, so there is a very easy answer....don't call from a mobile :rotfl:
At least we have it straight that 0843 isn't a premium or a ''semi premium'' number (whatever that is) and if people dont want to spend a few pennies on the 0843 number then the system has done its job of sorting people because anyone not prepared to spend those pennies is not a good prospect for a home business (or any kind of business tbh)

That site is incorrect about 0843 being a basic local rate number for starters.0 -
In what way are people being ''ripped off'' by phoning a non-premium information line, or a free 0800 number?
Pat0 -
There is no such thing as a 'semi premium rate' number. A number is either premium rate or not premium rate. An 0843 number IS a premium rate number in that it charges a premium for calling it over and above the cost of a normal 01, 02 or 03 number (which for me is 5p via 18185 or free with BT at weekends or inclusive with my mobile phone tariff. Using any of my three choices would make calling an 0843 number a premium rate number."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0
