Another vote for the Panny. Try Amazon, they always seem to have the keenest prices.Normal people worry me.0

Panasonic here too:)
No, it's not the ingredients. We had an MR (which only cost a tenner) before and however you tweak the recipes you just won't get a loaf anything like the ones from the Panasonic. Unless you can get one for free or nearly, it's not worth it.
We use both the timer and the 'bake it now', I don't think there's any difference. We make all w/meal, 50/50 and all white and all are just as good. The fastbake is a bit different as it has more yeast but still brilliant:T0 -
Thank you so much for all your replies. I bit the bullet and went for the Panasonic SD-2501 - on Amazon I got it for £101 (RRP: £140) as the SD-2500, which doesn't have the dispenser, was only £3 cheaper! I think I got the last one at that price (sorry!!) and it should be delivered this weekend.
Really looking forward to trying lovely homemade bread. Thanks all for your advice! Off now to browse recipes

I got a Panasonic SD-2501 and love it. I also have a bread slicer so to make it go further, as you want to use it for sandwiches.
I did a detailed pricing of a loaf of bread including ingredients and electricity. I can give you prices on white, 50/50%, Wholemeal and Granary. Plus costs of Pizza Dough and Rolls.
let me know if you are interested in costs and I will dig them out for you... only did them 3 months ago so prices actually have not changed and are based on getting your ingredients at full price (I often buy flour when on offer!!)We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240 -
I'd be interested to see those prices JG

As would I
I understand the cost depends on ingredients (naturally) so if I have a "maximum" price (e.g. when ingredients are full price) then anything below that is a saving! 0 -

I also have calculations for Granry Rolls/Pizza Dough, and Gluten Free Bread/Rye Bread/Spelt Bread and Seeded Loaves!
Please take into consideration these are 'Sandwich Loaves' which uses 1/2tsp yeast, while a 'Normal Loaf' and a 'fast loaf' use a little more... my spreadsheet tells me these two loaves use £0.03 of yeast.
Lets just say my DH needed convincing and these calculations did the trick

That's brilliant, thanks for those calculations.
45p for 50/50 sandwich loaf vs £1.15 Hovis Best of Both?
4p for a roll vs 40p at my local Sainsburys? 1/10 of the price.
32p for a thick pizza vs £10 at Pizza Hut?... no contest. (OK yes I know you have to factor in toppings etc but I can't see a pizza for me and OH coming out at more than £2-3 per person)
I knew it would be cheaper but I didn't realise how much cheaper  colour me astonished!
EDIT: Just noticed that Panasonic Breadmakers (including my on-order machine) have £20 cashback when you buy direct from Amazon. There's a link to the claim form on the product page. You have to buy before 31 December though. So that machine cost me £80 instead of £140. Decent money saving
