I assume you know that the pods are about 30p each, which doesn't sound much, but calculate how much you or he will spend each year on pods! Senseo machines can use pods which are only 9p each at Lidl.
Also, the pods are not available in Supermarkets, so you'll have to buy them mail-order. Hope you're in when the delivery man arrives.
Still want one? Well the good news is that Nespresso is the best pods-only coffee system on the market, judging by Which? reviews of coffee machines.
The Magimix M100 Eco Essenza Automatic scored 84%, & the Pixie (Krups or Magimix) got 83%. These scores are beaten only by a >£300 Gaggia, & are far ahead of any Dolce Gusto or Senseo or Tassimo machines.

Lidl sell pods in 3 blends... Brazil, Colombia & Kenya. Melangerie brand Pods. £1.59 for 18. Gold Winner at 'The Grocer Own Label Food & Drink Awards 2011'. 9p a cup. I prefer the Brazil & Colombia blends, as they're stronger than the Kenya blend.
I don't have a Senseo machine. I use these pods in a cheap espresso machine.
Espresso machines operate at 15 bar pressure, which extracts all the oils & flavours from the coffee. Senseo machines operate at lower (not sure what) pressure, so probably cannot extract the 'goodness' as effectively as an espresso machine. Nevertheless, Melangerie Pods seem to be popular with Senseo owners.
There's been quite a few coffee maker deals on the HUKD website recently. Click here for just one of several deals on Senseo machines.0 -
I believe costco are selling generic pods of the nespresso machine, just haven't had the time to go and buy them. They are much cheaper than the actual nespresso ones.:rotfl: l love this site!! :rotfl:0

I have a Krups pixie with aerocino. It came with £40 free credit but that does take up to a month to be added to the Nespresso account. I'm going to pick up some Costco pods at some point but am using Nespresso pods at the moment. I paid £137 two weeks ago when Debenhams had an offer on and then used a discount code as well. We had a Senseo machine before that which is still going strong after 5 years and I would often get pods at Poundland for that but not recently unfortunately. It depends what you want - a cup of coffee or a latte/cappuccino/espresso etc. I'm a latte girl but Mr shoe uses it the most for cappuccinos. I didn't use the Senseo at all. To be honest I'm happy with a kettle and a jar of instant when I'm not on the latte.0

Hello
I am almost set on buying a pixie nespressi machine with the milk frother.
Has anyone any advice about pods?
On the high street I especially like a costa skinny flat white , and would like to replicate taste,
I am not that keen on Starbucks coffee or cafe Nero.
I have given up my regular takeaway for lent and saving the pennies!!
Any thoughts gratefully received K

Hi all, I use an espresso machine and have recently been using the Lidl coffee pods. I think that they are made for the Senseo machine, but they fit a normal espresso machine. You just pop them into the coffee filter basket and make your coffee in the normal way.
Lidl Coffee Pod Quality
I think of myself as a bit of a coffee aficionado and usually buy Illy espresso or a specific roast from a local coffee grinder. So, what do I think of these pods...well they are absolutely fantastic. I have bought the Brazil and Colombia blends and these are arabica coffee (not cheap coffee). Both are quite robust, full bodied coffee and produce an excellent crema. I assume that they are a very fine blend as they produce very high quality espresso and produce a wonderful aroma. The bonus is that they are under 9p per pod.
I would recommend them to everyone, as they are an unbelievable price for high quality coffee.
Pod/Capsule Coffee Machines
If you are looking at a machine to make coffee, I would avoid all of the machines that use their own coffee dispenser system, even if they look cheap. The cost of the coffee capsules are very high; Nescafe Dolce Gusto and Tassimo are about 24p each, Nespresso start at about 25p and go over 40p each and Senseo pods are about 17p each.
Next, think about pressure. For really good espresso and coffee, you need at least 15 bar pressure. As far as I can tell, Tassimo and Senseo work at less than 4 bar, which means you wont get that wonderful espresso flavour and quality, it will be like filter coffee (not strong enough for cappuccino and latte).
Refilling Capsules?
Finally, I see a lot of people offering refillable capsules and ways to refill them. I personally would not do this if you are wanting a simple coffee solution. The main benefit of these systems is that you pop a capsule in the machine and make a coffee. If you spend your time refilling, then you will have coffee grounds all over the place and all over your machine, which is not a simple solution.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I would buy a standard espresso machine and use the Lidl pods. You will save a fortune in coffee costs and get a fabulous cup of coffee.
Keep Your Coffee Fresh
Another tip, always keep your coffee in the fridge or freezer in a sealed container. This keeps it wonderfully fresh. If you buy coffee in a foil sealed bag, just use a bag sealer on this and pop it into your fridge/freezer. If buying pods like the Lidl ones, make sure that they are in a sealed bag or container as they should not be exposed to moisture in a fridge/freezer.0
