260 grams approx smoked salmon at my local co-op is £5 half price

i have compared it to the pinky/white jelly looking stuff at asda and in my opinion co-op`s smoked salmon is better

even better packed and also
its more orange rather than pink
do not get me wrong i love asda

but i think their buyers will buy any old................ crap
and expect the, busy public to throw it in the trolley
while i was at asda at 3.30 this afternoon i bought two massive trays,
of lamb chops £ 10 reduced to £ 5 i bought two packs one for me, and one for me mam....................

is the COOP Salmon 260g for £5 or 260g for £2.50?

How much is the ASDA salmon? Do ASDA still do a extra special salmon?
When I had some extra special salmon about 2 years ago it was very good quality.

THough at this time of year smoked salmon sales will be increasing rapdily so the quality MAY suffer at all shops as the producers get lot of temps and supply shortage as factory will be at capacity.

THats nearly £40 per kg. That is a lot. I would expect only the best smoked salmon for that price.

If you just wanted smoked salmon to make nibbles with, or to add to other dishes, then I would recommend Mr T's Value smoked salmon off-cuts, if you can get them. Unfortunately my local hasn't had them in for a month or so (probably just concentrating on the more expensive variants for the Christmas season?), but it's a flat pack of 100g for around £1. Brilliant value and a little smoked salmon goes a VERY long way, with a great flavour. A little bit of luxury for a little price! :)

i think the other supermarkets do smoked salmon off cuts for similar price as MR T. Have seen them in Asdaa.

Personally I do not mind a little brown meat with the pink. Also saves you cutting it up peices as done for you

Co-op is okay but the quality is no better than a lot of other places, however even their offers are more expensive than some of the other supermarkets (for example their Brie was £3 while it is only £2 elsewhere), I did pick up some of that salmon for sandwiches the other day as my local co-op is handy for odd bits of shopping for me, it's okay but no different to what I can buy in Waitrose or Tesco.
Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.

    Just spotted this http://www.food.gov.uk/news/newsarchive/2011/dec/coopsmokedsalmon

The Co-op is recalling two date codes of its Scottish smoked salmon because some packs contain high levels of listeria. The affected batches have a ‘use by’ date of 21 December 2011 and 24 December 2011. If you have bought the product do not eat it. The Agency has issued a Product Recall Information Notice.

Thought I'd mention it here, as could save someone a rather unpleasant Xmas.

M&S smoked salmon is £6.99 for 400g. Seriously good quality and a LOT cheaper than the co-op.

My local fishmonger smokes his own award winning smoked salmon, and it's still half the price of any supermarket stuff. Worth checking out your local fishmonger first?
