Anyone experienced unsolicited credit checks that damage their rating?

I recently went on to a website to check the interest rates on a loan. Within minutes, I had at three companies texting me saying my loan had been approved. I did not click the button that said 'apply' and did not check the box that said 'agree to terms and conditions'. I've just tried to call the company who are texting me ever few hours to ask who they are and where thy got my details. They have hung up on me three times and now, having asked to speak to a manager, I have been on hold for 23 minutes.

What worries me is that, firstly, my details were shared with third parties without my explicit consent. Secondly, that a range of dodgy loan companies have now credit checked me without my consent which doesn't look good on my credit record.

The number of the company (who, incidentally, have just hung up on me again after 27 minutes on hold) is 01642 717501. They did not give me their name.

Has anyone else experienced this?
Simon.

    Which one?
  • Not sure if this helps, but I found this which suggests it's that oh-so-not-English Loan Solutions who will try to get you to pay upfront for them to not lend you any money. Scam of the first order.

Why on Earth did you put your genuine mobile number on a random website??

What else did you think was going to happen?

    "Your loan is AGREED"

There, that has about the same standing as what these people are telling you. They want you to go on their books so they can charge you an "admin" fee for getting you a loan that never materialises.
