You book it now and they may put £1 through on your credit card but you will pay for your shopping on the day it is picked. You can change the order right up to the night before.

To book it, make your shopping basket add up to more than £25. The best way to do this is to go to the alcohol category and add in 3/4 cases of lager or whatever and then check out.

As Possession said, they may put a hold on £1 on your bank account, but this will not leave your account, it is simply to make sure it has the right account to get the money out of and it will drop ioff when they take the full amount for your shopping. Each time you edit it, they will put a hold on another pound - but again it is not taken out of your account, it just has a hold on it.

I wouldn't do your actual shop yet as the deals available will change between now and then - I think Asda's main offers change on Tuesdays. I would book for say the 22nd (we have one ready for then) and do your actual online shop on the 21st - simply choosing 'edit basket' or 'amend basket' etc.

It also gives you time to get around other shops incase things aren't delivered.

If I did that could I completely cancel the shop, say 48 hours beforehand, if I decided to do it in person or to shop elsewhere? Or would I still have to buy something?
Thank you - I'm very new to online grocery shopping. :)

Just found the answer in the help section for Tesco - I assume they all have similar policies?

How do I cancel my order?
You can cancel orders up until midnight on the day before your delivery is due. Click on the 'My Orders' link at the top of the page, and select 'Orders due for delivery'. You'll see a list of all your orders in progress.
Find your order from the 'Orders due for delivery' section then just click on the 'Cancel this order' link for the relevant order.
    Click 'Yes' to confirm.

Yep, if you cancelled it completely - that wouldn't be a problem. They all have different limits though - I think asda is 10pm, think it's roughly the same for Sainsburys.
