Advice needed on SSP asap

Hi,

a little bit of background, i was made redundant from civil service in june after 11 years service

started looking for another job and like everyone else these days and because of the way the economy is couldn't get a full time job, so i took a temporary job. My contract runs out 31st dec but the problem is i have been signed off work by my doctor with anxiety and depression until 16th january, after my contract ends.

When i rang the (well known high street company) to report my sickness (before i got my note off my doctor) my line manager was very rude to me when i said that i was going to be off sick, I said i am going to be off as I am sick and i said ok and she said " no actually is not ok cant you take a few pills and come in" which made me worse as you can imagine.

I dont know if the company will pay me SSP or should i write them a letter and ask them to terminate my contract now and then take my sick note to the job centre and claim employment support allowance.

I am so confused at the moment as to what to do, i really do not want anymore dealings with this company as i have felt so humiliated by my line manager since day 1 of being there, but on the same token i do not want to be out of pocket either.

any help would be appreciated

If you are eligible for SSP the company have no choice but to pay it whilst you remain on their payroll.

The general advice in any sickness situation is not to resign but to sit tight and let the company make all the moves.
