True I do understand that can be frustrating, it drove me nuts last time as I'd keep getting emails and log in to see another person asking for a code.

On another note though I've just looked at the T&Cs on the back of the coupons and it says that the voucher code can't be placed on a website , it is aimed at family and friends though so the PM system could have worked. Pity there isn't another way around it.

I saw that which is why I didn't initially put any codes on the site (combined with the fact that I wanted members only to have the codes). It just seemed like a complete waste of 12 codes when they specifically had asked us to share them. And of course I see the other members of this site as my "friends" haha!!!:beer::beer:

The trouble is, anyone can surf on by these forums because they're public access and easily googled, so it's not necessarily forum members who are using them. I think it's unreasonable to expect non-members to join the forum with the sole purpose of posting to say thanks for a code, which is what your post implies.

Correct, that IS what my post "implies" and, having been here 6 years now, I have sadly seen this happen time and time again (anyone remember the CD WOW codes in 2007, and the ASOS Diet Coke ones??)

So yeah, sorry, we obviously don't share the same principles, but I am sticking by what I say, and it would seem that most agree with me.

just a reminder that the forum does not allow the exchanging of codes via pm

That's a shame because I would have liked one, my husband £45 shoes would have felt a lot better with 20% off :D

Going to bed now.....I'll be back all keen eared and wide eyed tomorrow if any kind soul wants to add a code to the thread that I can snag from about 12 onwards (have to go see an Olympic torch in the morning with my kid).

    xx

True but I'd rather see them go to members here as I always thought the point of this forum was to give and take and help each other not to just take.
I agree, but when we can't limit codes to members only, there's really no point getting upset about it. Anyone that feels that way, should just not post codes.

    I agree.

If someone uses a code they should register and let others know they have used the code and thank the poster for that code, it is common courtesy and saves others wasting their time.
I used to run a website and forum. There was nothing worse than a bunch of inane "thank you" or "you're welcome" posts that basically added nothing to the discussion, but took up bandwidth, added to the running costs, and bored forum members to tears.

Sure if a non-member is going to repeatedly use the forum for codes, then they should have the courtesy to sign up and click on the "thanks" button each time. But a non-member taking one code as a one-off, you're expecting them to post a thank you message? That's an open ticket to endless posts akin to the "PM me" variety, that the mods (and anyone running a forum) detests.

IMO, it's more of a time-waster wading through meaningless posts like that on here than it is in taking a few seconds on the M&S site to add a code that is subsequently rejected.

The problem I had with your post is that (because it was non-specific) it seemed to be making a dig at forum members, when forum members almost certainly aren't the main culprits. I was only trying to remind you of that. There is no need to be so condescending.

FWIW, I was once sent a personal code directly from M&S that didn't work, and I had to contact them to get them to apply it manually. So it's also possible that the odd code posted on here is one that genuinely doesn't work, nor has been used by anyone.

Yes it happened recently with the Cravendale codes as well.

You are right that most agree with you, I do, and will not be persuaded otherwise.
