Netgear Wireless

Hi
I have set up a wireless system with one laptop connected to the main computer via a usb connection, I think somebody called it a dongle.
I have now bought a second laptop for my use, this is a more modern laptop wioth built in wireless.
I can pick up the signal from the main computer but I can connect, although I can connect if I try the dongle in my laptop.
So the question is, do I have to buy a new dongle for my new laptop or do I adjust something on the router settings on the main computer.
If that is the case can anybody tell me what to adjust and how.
I have installed a netgear router, it can allow up to four devices, and the dongle is also netgear.
All computers are running on XP.
Many thanks
Martin

I've set up between 50 - 100 netgear routers / wireless routers, but can you just clarify the following, as you were a bit unclear...
Are you saying
You have a main computer, connected via a cable to the netgear (wireless) router.
Your old laptop can connect wirelessly with the Netgear 'dongle' / usb wireless adapter.
Your new laptop although supposedly wireless won't connect unless you use the netgear wireless adapter?0 -

Blueyonder "lock down" their routers, well at least the wg602v3
you can only use their Netgear software to connect via the wireless adapter as it generates the code to connect from the passphrase
better off buying a real router without the restrictions rather than a dongleEx forum ambassador

Can you tell us exactly how it is set up and the model numbers of the netgear kit you are using please?
Do you have a USB wireless dongle connected to one laptop so it connects wirelessly to the Router? It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -

My understanding was that it was a Netgear wireless router - they say 'I have installed a Netgear Router, it can allow up to four devices', and the dongle was a wireless dongle, however we are waiting on clarification on the overall config from the OP so maybe they will confirm that.0 -
have you set up a home or small office network within windows.
Pls be nice to all MSer's
There's no such thing as a stupid question, and even if you disagree courtesy helps.

Is your wireless switched on on the laptop (usually by a switch or key combination).
Is your network encrypted, or setup with mac address filtering?
