Wasted expense!

I thought I was being frugal but, having just used the Wasted Expense calculator (same site as SOA but I think there's one on here too), I've realised I'm still spending £84 per year on magazines, £350 per year on coffee and £730 per year on wine at home! That's three things I won't be buying any more! (Well, I might still buy wine, but less often!)

It is scary - I'd stopped buying things like that when I had my LBM (about 2 months ago) but I've slowly slipped back into my old ways... not any more! From now on it's no more Starbucks for me!0

I dread to think how much of my money has gone to heat, closer, reveal etc etc & starbucks!
I have managed not to buy magazines for about 2-4 months now & only have 1 starbucks a week if that as a wee treat!

My lovely friend passes on her four magazines a week so I still get my celeb fix.
I do think its good to have a treat though every so often, but aslong as it is not to often. If you want the rainbow you have to go through the rain.

Mr BR has decided to only buy one of his mags (comes out quarterly) now and to drop his other monthly one. I usually only get one monthly one, so at least we'd be more or less equal. Our LBM: Dec 2011. DMP started: Jan 2012. Debt at LBM: £41,568
Oct 2012 = Current debt: £40,548.93
Oct 2013 = Current debt: £39.054.70

I used to spend a lot more than that on magazines, as would often buy as many as 8 or 10 glossy monthlies a month at height of my spending (am now a v v reformed girl with no debts!) I don't know if you live anywhere near a good market, but if so, does it have a magazine stall? Our local market has who we call 'Magazine man'. He has a very large stall with loads of magazines. They are all out of date ones, the ones shops can no longer sell, but often they are still only the last edition. I often find that it's say, November, and I can pick up November editions because the one in the shops is already December. My partner sometimes finds a rock mag he likes for £1-50 instead of £8-00! Most of the mags are any 3 for 2.50. That makes an affordable treat, then I can swap them with friends or my Mum & sister who have different ones. This guy does 3 or 4 different local markets, so worth seeing if there's anything similar where you are?2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -
Isn't it amzing how these 'little' things add up? But then again, sometimes you need a treat just to keep yourself on track and not to have a splurge
Just bumbling along, trying to save some moneyCouldn't do it without coming here every day

You want another reason to stop buying coffee when out?

That was enough to put me right off. I can't believe that a coffee contains more calories than a double cheeseburger! I now feel healthier and less poor! You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.0
