present for staff at care home?

Options
my nan is in a residential care home. We initially had doubts about how well she would settle in because she has always been a real homebird. However the staff at this home are absolutely first class. Nothing is too much trouble and my nan is the happiest I can remember her in a long time.

The staff at the home work tirelessly to look after all the residents, and I'd like to get a little something to say thank you. The thing is, I'm a bit stuck for ideas. Does anyone have any more inspired ideas beyond the typical chocolates/box of biscuits/fruit basket?

That's so lovely to hear :)

When I worked in that sort of environment, there was nothing better than a bit of homemade cake to have on our tea break :p

be CAREFULL as they may not be able to take anything as we are no longer allowed to accept individual gifts. another suggestion would be a bowl of fruit or some pens as i am always losing mine.
  • That is lovely to hear & tbh they will probably be delighted to be complimented, so it really is the thought that counts. Most care workers are allowed to accept 'token' gifts. The pen idea isn't a bad one as black pens are like gold dust in care!!

  • I have a friend who is a community midwife. She says they get lots of chocolates but would appreciate something like jars of coffee or boxes of teabags more as some or all of them are usually on a diet.

  • what about a bottle of wine a piece doesnt have to be expensive stuff as the thought that is appreciated.
    ;)
  • OP, in addition to the other ideas of gifts listed above, just reading your words of gratitude in a card (as you expressed them in your opening post) will most likely mean more to all of the staff than any bowl of fruit or chocolates.

Glad to hear everything is going well for your nan.

It makes you wonder what will happen to each of us (assuming we get that old), hopefully there will be some lovely people to look after each of us when we need them...

I think your thanks expressed in writing would mean a lot to them and a small gift such as sweeties or pens (great idea!). Sometimes it is just so rewarding being told that you are doing a good job and that your efforts are valued.
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!
  • A gift I have given to Nurses in the past is some really nice handcream in a pump action bottle. Boots have the Hand Food cream and handwash in a nice caddy this year. Think it was £10 but you get 3 for 2, pay with your points etc etc.

Most nurses are not allowed to use this during the shift but due to constant hand washing, wearing of powdery rubber gloves etc their hands are usually very dry at the end of a shift. The nurses put this in the staff room near their lockers- almost everyone was queueing up for a "skoosh" before going home!
  • i work in a care home and the words in a card are very very much appreaciated as it really can be a thankless job (for very low pay too, noone works in care for the money! lol) any gift is very appreciated. love the handcream idea! x
  • ooh also we always need things like diarys, notepad small enough to fit in pockets black pens ect
