training / copyright issue

If I pay for a training course, then find that all the materials in that course is copyrighted to another company, so the company I bought from is selling something that is nor theirs to sell - where does that leave me? Can I ask for a full refund? (over £3,000 - and it was not a learn at home course, it was mainly residential)
Any advice is gratefully received

I wouldnt have thought the arrangement to deliver the training between the two companies would affect your contract with the company you bought from.0

Copyright owners can licence others to use their copyright material.
Not all of the fee you paid was for printed or computer material.0 -
They may be paying for the rights to use those materials though. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0

The company owning the copyright does not give the training company permission to use its material and legal action is being sought.
Because the company I trained with are using material which is not their own means that my qualification is invalid, it is essentially worthless meaning I can't get the type of work promised by the training company.
In short, I paid £3,000+ for something which is essentially useless.
The company owning the copyright, and have morals(!) have offered to train me, but I can't afford it now after paying £3K+ to a rogue company.
Hopefully that makes a little bit more sense.0 -
Wouldn't you have to sue the company that trained you to get your money back?
If they are a dodgy company I wouldn't be surprised if they wind the business up so you'll have no one to sue

What is the qualification? Is there an exam? Can you speak to the examination board and see? I don't really understand why the qualification is not valid?0

What is the qualification?
Have you already undergone assessment for it?
Is it actually nationally recognised as independent or was it specific to the training provider.
What sort of "promise" did you have from the training company?0 -

OK, but that is their problem.Because the company I trained with are using material which is not their own means that my qualification is invalid
I'm at a total loss to see how.
Whilst it could potentially discredit the training company to some extent I don't see how it affects the validity or otherwise of a particular qualification.
Your GCSEs would still be valid even if the school had stolen the text books and the classroom desks!0 -
The qualification you have is assessed on what is in your head. The fact that it is in your head because you read it from material which was in breach of copyright is a problem to be sorted out between the copyright owner and your course provider and is not you problem. The company owning the copyright does not give the training company permission to use its material and legal action is being sought.
