To the person who said I'll get less nervous as I have more interviews: I think this would be the case for most people but it isnt for me. I am actually gettiing more nervous, with the more interviews I have! (the first one and the 5th one, I actually got told I was good but was beaten by someone who was excellent).

For the first 10 or so, I wasnt nervous but kept getting told I looked nervous in my feedback. In the last few, I have felt very nervous and I think its because I want it so bad! That does add pressure but I cant help it. I've made a conscious effort to not look nervous but its not working, I still get told I look nervous.

Any ideas to cure my nervousness other than hypnotherapy (which I've already tried)?

I have never heard of STEMNET before. I keep flicking to their website then back to this message as I write, but I am interesting in it.
Also going to write an advert and put it in the post office. :) Thanks.

According to the national office of statistics theres 10 million economically inactive adults of working age, and 2.62 million unemployed. In total 12.62 million unemployed in real terms.
Noooooooooooooooo there isn't 12.6 million unemployed...

Unemployed means someone who is seeking work. Economically inactive isn't the same thing as being unemployed... its incorrect to group them to "those who work" and "those who dont work".

Economically inactive includes pensioners and students... neither of which are actively seeking employment.

OP - One of the main reasons is your desperation... its not a good quality (?) to have. Its a very tricky balance of offseting your real requirement for a job to get an income, and focusing more on passion, desire etc. The employer wants someone who wants to undertake such tasks and many would like someone to develop a career. Not just someone who will fill a job role to get paid regardless if they can perform. When you are desperate the latter comes across more than your obvious ambition to teach.

Your degree isn't so great, granted. Is there an opportunity to focus on professional qualifications (Microsoft, Cisco etc.)? I appreciate its going to be really expensive but, for example, if an employer is offering such training/development in an IT role maybe you should set teaching a target for 5 years in the future?

Get some REAL experience in IT (granted its going to be tricky whatever job you are looking for) and that will help you apply for an IT teaching role in the future. Even if its very low-end at PC World... (its retail really lol) you can always apply for jobs whilst holding down that job... it would be much easier.

Do you want a job or a relationship? The key problem here is you cannot have both... at this time. Your gf is draining all your enthusiasm... what do you focus on keeping your relationship tip-top or on your career?! She is probably the biggest reason you cannot find work. Try a trial seperation making it clear why it is. Ultimately you could lose her... but at this rate, she will likely dump you anyway after you hit rock bottom (I am sure she probably doesnt even realise she is doing it... I doubt its intentional) kick a man while he is down etc.

You could try freelance work online for coding to get a small income although could be hard to compete with India etc. Don't focus solely on applying for jobs... you can still semi-relax at a quiet library learning new subjects in IT. You might also want to drop the degree of your CV if you feel that helps (for example, generic supply teacher work). Don't expect anything... it could be 10 interviews or 1000 interviews. Perhaps you should approach schools directly (if you not already doing so) ... they might not all accept it but if you can meet the headteacher (or deputy) to give that personal touch that could be a step in the right direction. (Ring them up, don't just wander in).
  • You may not be able to stop being nervous so what you need to do is concentrate on not appearing to be nervous.

Lots of teaching is based on performance so it should be good practice for when you do manage to get a job.

Apologies - just read eeyore's post.
