The more you use silver, the less it needs polishing. I'm sure I've heard that fine china is strengthened by use, but that could just be a myth. Maybe it's just being more used to having it about means you're less likely to be overly conscious of how you're handling it and end up dropping it.
while I agree that using silver more often makes it easier to care for, in prctise this only actually orks if there are a fe of you. e.g. my sister used to use her silver everyday (family of four) but now she's alone she was finding, much lik I would through the week, that the sme setting gets used over and over, lol.
I suppose I better add giving mine a shine up in the next week.0 -
I keep silver cutlery for best as its a mare to polish, my table clothes are over 100 yeards old andi don't want to risk them with dd and spag bol, plus washing and ironing real linen is a pita so use the table bare day in day out.
My evening clothes tend to be far to skimpy for day time wear so I keep those for nights out too.
My reasons for keeping stuff seperate are practical more than anything. I do however wear my jewellery all the time as I love it and even up to my elbows in mud or dough or chicken !!!!!! I like to sparkle!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Last weekend I was rummaging through my linen chest looking for cot bedding when I came across a tablecloth my grandmother gave me about 15 years ago.
She made it for her bottom drawer sometime in the 1920s. Her father sent the cotton over when he was working in Eygpt and she crocheted a wide border.
I decided that it silly to leave it in the chest-my DDs will probably send it to the charity shop when I'm gone-so got it out and used it to cover an old chest on the landing. I wish I'd done it years ago, I get a little glow of pleasure everytime I come up the stairs and see it.0 -
I've got some crystal wine glasses that I've only used about three times (bought in '95)
. I do want to use them, but they're ever so small and very thin and I'm terrified of breaking them. They are on display though, and I like looking at them.
Also, I've got 3 "posh" dresses that only come out for weddings/ball/etc, which doesn't happen very often. There's no way I could do my shopping in either dress - I'd get many funny looks :rotfl:
Other than that, I use everything and don't save for best. Not that I have much "posh" stuff anyways. Pretty much every household object in my flat was bought on special offer, isn't branded but works perfectly fine, which makes me happy0 -

Doesnt bother my 8yr old granddaughter - bridesmaids dresses get worn to Tresco, Tutus and leotards are considered perfect beach wear, and any dressing up sets are ideal for city shopping!
The only time that child wears 'normal' clothes is for school!!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
One timeless little black dress thats only really appropriate for fancy parties or weddings etc, and its the only dress I own - saved for best, but has been used for best too.
A christmas tablecloth my nan painted with holly and robins at some point - saved for the xmas table only.
Everything else is fair game, I revel in having a complete 'set' of mismatched crockery of every type! But I prefer to collect blue and white things, infact, me and the kids have personal plates [so I know who Im dishing up for and they know which plate is theirs]. If something gets broken, the hunt to replace it with a different plate/bowl etc is great fun, and theres no pain of losing part of a set.''A moment's thinking is an hour in words.'' -Thomas Hood0 -
My wedding dress was chosen specifically with wearing it again afterwards in mind; whilst it's obviously not for "everyday" wear, it's fine for visits to the theatre or the opera.:oIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0
