Protecting new mattress

Options
I have a fairly new mattress, and have bought a quilted mattress protector from John Lewis, but changing the bed yesterday, I noticed a couple of yellow stains on the mattress (perspiration, I'm getting to that age!), I removed the stains using bicarb.

What would you recommend to use in addition to the mattress protector to prevent stains on mattresses etc. I remember my Mother having a thick blanket on her bed underneath the sheet, but I haven't got any thick wool blankets.

I would appreciate your help and it must be able to fit into my washing machine, I have OCD where bedding is concerned, the whole lot including protectors etc get washed weekly, and it ideally must be white so it doesn't show through my protector and white fitted sheet as I never make the bed, simply turn it down every morning.

I have a White cotton under blanket (actually, at the moment I have two, one over the mattress topper and one under :)). They wash and dry easily, and as cotton is absorbent, I guess they'd absorb the perspiration before it got to the mattress.
  • You can get waterproof mattress protectors which should hopefully do the trick.

I had one which had a nice fleecy bit on the top so it looked no different from a "normal" one - Something like this: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1270994/Trail/searchtext%3EWATERPROOF+MATTRESS+PROTECTOR.htm

Or, you could just get a plain waterproof one and put your other one on the top - Something like this http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1271010/Trail/searchtext%3EWATERPROOF+MATTRESS+PROTECTOR.htm

I haven't searched for ones by price so you may find cheaper elsewhere & they come in all sizes

Agree with Rising on this about the waterproof protectors - you can also get the anti allergy ones as well, but I would still put a mattress protector on top of that because they can make you sweat extra - IYKWIM

Try the charity shops for wool blankets. Or use a thin cotton duvet. If you put a plastic mattress protector on you'll just end up sweaty and sticky. You want some sort of natural absorbant layer under you.

I agree with this having had a protector with a waterproof layer that made me sweat even more. A duvet is a good idea and for a temporary measure towels under the protector.

A white bath sheet under the protector? Absorbent, and it can be washed with the rest of your bedding.:)
