Redundancy threat but also new job offer
Comments
-
Evening, to anyone wondering what I chose to do..... I gracefully declined the part time job offer with the other boss.
I may regret this down the line but felt pressured by my work colleagues to "accept it or I was stupid" kind of thing with all the uncertainty in my current job.
Have a meeting at 9am tomorrow to discuss future of the team, probably be given 30 days notice now instead...
Thank you all for the replies, help, advice and support.
:grouphug: - that's a group hug BTW!.0 -
This may sound dull of me but - if your contract is due to end of 31st March 2012 why do they have to give you any notice or redundancy? can't they just not renew the contract?
I'm seeing it as any temporary job (which IMHO it is if there is a fixed end date) and the employer has, when you started, already given you more than statutory notice0 -
Well, got to work, had meeting and were reassured our contracts would be extended to the end of September 2012!
The team may have to be merged into an existing one as "it needs to change", but its still a full time job, and I'm glad I turned the p/t one down now.
Thanks everyone .0 -
That's great news. I was in the public sector with 50% cutbacks and people left so fast they ended up with vacant posts so sometimes the best thing is to sit tight. I'ld keep on applying but at least now you have until September to find something.0

Thanks EconomicsGirl

Update: the place I nearly accepted this P/T post is now in dire circumstances, a meeting next week will decide who is going to be made redundant, and who gets to stay.
So so sad.0 -
Glad things turned out OK RG..... I'm currently in a very similar situation and waiting to see what happens (it's horrible)
In case the situation arises again in Sept (fingers crossed it doesn't), the 90 day consultation/notice thing only applies if 20 or more people are being made redundant - although there may be this number across the whole council, it's by job/dept so it often doesn't apply if say a team of 10 is going (as is our case).
Redundancy pay is likely to be one weeks' pay for every year you've been there - this will be based on the pay you receive at the time ie the amount you earn depending on the number of hours you work. Best of luck and hoping the situation doesn't arise again,Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
2016 Sell: £125/£250
£1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!0 -

Thanks, and good luck to you.
Well, we will see what happens to the other employees next week
There are only 3 of us left in my team now plus 2 non council employees, so thats just 5
One of these works for the other company and may be out of a job next week.0
