Door handle broken! I'm trapped!

    It's a bit late now, but the same thing happened to me a few months ago.

    However, i eventually worked out that I could retract the door catch by hooking a wire clothes hanger around the back of the catch, then pulling hard on the coat hanger at the same time as pulling gently on the door handle.
    If it sticks, force it.
    If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

    I've done that before, but this time I was on the other side of the door and there wasn't any gap to insert a credit card / screwdriver / coat hanger...
  • Have you thought about asking on your local freecycle / freegle for a door. You get then now and again and if you're near Dundee I've got two half hour fire doors, complete with furniture you can have.

    One I gave away before became a garage door to a very grateful family, the guy in particular who was nervous about putting hinges on the door.

    Another option is https://www.gumtree.com and putting a wanted ad on for a door there with your size required. You just never know......

  • Cant use a jigsaw but you might be lucky with a new door it might fit ,i did 7 in my home in september and 4 fit straight in ,i then bought an electric planer from argos for £14.99 reduced from £60,took 5 mins each door
