  • Good luck Blushing Rose... it was actually your first post the other night that gave me the courage to sign up and post on here myself. I've been following your story - it takes me right back to April last year when I went into my dmp. I can only echo what the others say - the letters slow down after a while. I still get statements and default notices (apparently they have to send them to me) but it doesn't affect me the way it used to. Someone at work once told me I should look at it all positively and be pleased I've mucked up my credit record.

Yes cancel the old direct debit in the old account, actually cancel them now if they are due anytime soon. Definately cancel the bank loan DD, remember the offset rule I mentioned to you, the sooner the better.

Yeah, although if they take the loan from the account, it'll just push the overdraft higher as it's the same bank.

Do we cancel all the direct debits at the bank or do we contact the companies with the new details and it'll just change from the old bank to the new bank automatically? Or do we have to cancel them all at the bank and then contact the companies with the new details?
Sorry if that sounds confusing, not sure about it all...

Thanks hon, we weren't sure whether they'd just automatically transfer or not. I'll get Mr BR to get onto that as soon as he gets home x

  • Hi Blushing Rose. Make sure the new direct debits will not come out before you have money in the new bank account though! Having said this, it is actually extremely unlikely that it would happen as they are rarely set up that quickly. Still, better safe than sorry. Good luck:)

    Ha, yeah, good point!
Mr BR tells me that nothing is due out again now until about the 1st of the month, so that should give us time (although, of course, it's Christmas and so just the *wrong* time for us to be doing this)

Hello again Blushing Rose, glad to hear you have started to get things under way. You sound a lot more in control now, and not so stressed!
