Do you worry?

I feel like I'm losing the will to live, I need to sort my life out properly and I do have a plan but first I need a job.

I apply for jobs including min wage, different professions etc and I do get interviews (the ones I get turned down for are the min wage jobs) I'm registered with agencies who seem keen the first couple of weeks then ignore emails etc.

I have found myself sitting their worrying about my future, worrying I will still be on JSA in 6 months time and what I will do. I get this sick fluttery feeling. I am terrified!

Surely I'm not the only one feeling like this?

Look for positives. Not always easy, I know. I could just sit here and say that "some other !!!!!! is worse off". Even though true, it does not actually help where you are right now.

What are your skills? What are you qualified in? What do you enjoy doing? You say you have a plan which is good! Great in fact!! Dunno whare you are located, but if you lived in Leeds, I'd suggest the non-profit organisation I volunteer at. You get to be involved in a proper network of people as well as doing some real good in the local area. Oh, and you improve your skills! Is anything like that available whaere you are?

I know I can't offer much, and I am being vague. All I can say is believe in YOU! Be yourself! You are a one off! After all, no-one else can take your plans, dreams and aspirations away from you. You are the best judge of your OWN character!

    Take care now....
  • I know its awful but the only things people can do is keep looking, do voluntary work and courses etc.Its a terrible time for jobs for anybody, whether your starting out or a professional who has lost their job.Its best to try to keep yourself occupied to stop worrying at least your not in prison or hospital. Go out for a walk or a swim or something when you begin to feel down.
When I was leaving the jobcentre the other day there was this man also leaving who had no lower body from the chest down, he was in a wheelchair.I thought well no matter what my problems are job wize at least Im well and fit etc.

Just to clarify - do you have any identifiable skills - are you trained or qualified in something specific? Is what you are going for realistic? You mentioned that you are not getting turned down for "professional" jobs, but are getting turned down for the NMW roles?

This doesn't make much sense... can you clarify a bit please :p

I also worry but worrying won't change anything. It's a tough time to be job hunting. As other people suggest, get yourself doing some voluntary work while you've got the time. It will boost your self worth and look great on your CV. Something will come up eventually, good luck xx

Maybe you are getting turned down for the min wage jobs because they can see you are qualified in something so assume quite correctly that you will take a job offer in your area of expertise when you find a better job, like most people would .

I have a friend who is a registered children's nurse, but she tried for months to find a vacancy without success. Her options were to relocate to where there were children's nursing jobs advertised or to just apply for any job and keep checking for nursing jobs locally.

Once the min wage jobs saw she was a registered nurse they didn't even offer her an interview, she phoned one national min wage job up and this is the reason they gave her as I said above.

She tailored her applications, made a new nursing CV, and used a different CV for non nursing applications, which she got interviews for.

I previously worked for the Jobcentre as an AO, my background is in customer service and I have Clait level 2.

Got rejected at the CV stage for co-op retail job, Asda but had interviews for large shipping companies in admin etc.
