Extortionate Loan!

although your mum is still upset, it will be a big relief for her to have told you all.
CAB or CCCS (charity run) will be able to deal with the credit card companies on your/her behalf and stop the interest payments (and give you advice on the other matters too).
i would definitely take the whole family down to the branch of the bank where she was made to take out that loan and ask for an explanation as to what is going to be done about it.
because of that event/loan it has presumably increased her payments and actually then led to her further debts - it is actually their fault and all stems from this. i definitely think they have failed your mum and probably broken the banking laws too.
it makes my blood boil (and i'm sure yours too) that this can happen - it is really not your mum's fault.
is she also in recepit of all she is entitled too re; pensions, pension credit, grants etc
good luck and i'm sure it will all get resolved. if necessary get tony levine of the guardian involved.0
