Sky are one of the easiest organisations to barter with. If you are still in contract try ringing them up and explaining that you are struggling and ask if they can reduce your package at all. If you are out of contract, tell them that you can no longer afford them and that you're cancelling ~ they will usually offer you at least 50% off for 6 months, might be a bit of breathing space to convice OH that he can in fact live without it ;)

Your £130 monthly payment to Littlewoods seems high ~ are you paying off arrears?

Water rates at £40 also sound quite steep for a smallish household, is this metered? If not, it may be worth looking at

somethingcorporate ~ obviously you are entitled to your views, however I'm not sure how helpful it is to suggest that someone 'grows a backbone'. The OP has come on here as a new member of the site, asking for help and advice to manage their situation not to be subjected to rudeness. Kindly adhere to Martins request that the DFW forum is kept non-judgemental and that posters are treated with respect

I owe approx 2000 pounds but to various creditors in little amounts.
partner owes 3000 lloyds credit card and loan, 500 store card, and 3000 for a HP car off welcome finance what he gave back after a couple of months as he couldnt afford the payments, so not got anything to show for it.

Ive just managed to get onto my hospitals nurse bank as a support worker until i qualify in august,

Can I suggest that admirable as it is, this is the wrong time for you to be tackling your debt.

You qualify in August. So you need to concentrate your efforts on qualifying and getting a job.

Once that is in place, you need to tackle your debts.

Defintely apply for DLA for your son. My DS doesn't even have an ASD dx yet, only dyspraxia and sensory processing disorder but he still got awarded High Rate Care and Low Rate mobility. It is £372 per 4 weeks plus your tax credits go up significantly. There will be loads of extra expense that you have ie having to drive him due to his autism, clubs, activities etc.

    Good luck!

  • I forgot I had wandered onto the DFW section where we have to treat newbies like this isn't the real world, so I apologise if I caused any offense. Luckily for those that can handle the cold, hard truth the financial world is not all cuddles and sunshine!

Asking for a F&F reduction is not paying all your debts, it is trying to weedle out of them. Fortunately they are generally only offered to people who have already screwed up their credit files for a long time so go ahead and fill your boots - little incentive for creditors to offer them until you are proven to be in financial difficulty.

Make a grown up decision and prioritise paying your debts and keeping your credit file in tact rather than being able to watch football whilst your finances go to hell in a handcart.

    Good luck!
