WHY are my endowments underperforming?

I have relatives who's 25 year with CGU (now Aviva) with profits endowment are coming to an end....they are prepared for it to come in way under what it was expected to pay off and were so horrified they have actually paid off the mortgage in full.:eek:

Dunstohn has given me some good advice via this site and they are being realistic about what they are/are not going to get back.......but they tried ringing Aviva the other day to get some sort of general advice on what rate the endowment is currently performing at and what would the likely terminal or final bonus would be but came up against the most obstructive and unhelpful Aviva telephone operator that they actually gave up on the call.:mad:

Is there a way to find this out on the Aviva website as they only have about 10 months left to run and wanted to get as much info as possible on the shortfall and wanted to know how the endowment gets paid out and how long it takes?

Any ideas greatly appreciated:D
