Experian - how to make it cost less?

It appears that I must have previously used Experian - it must be years and years ago as I have no recollection. However, this appears to mean I can't have the free trial. I'm being quoted £14.99 per month which includes £6.40 for some Indentity Protection Insurance. It says this is mandatory but it also has a 14 day cooling off period.

Do you reckon I can cancel it as soon as a paperwork arrives and get the £6.40 refunded?

Also, how quickly would I have to cancel Experian to prevent being charged next month?

Surely you only want the Statutory Report for £2?

    http://www.equifax.co.uk/Products/credit/statutory-report.html

It will give you a break down of all finances and scores so you can check through everything.
  • That seems like a good idea caeler :-)

But, are Equifax and Experian the same people? Will all the info about my debts be on whichever one I choose (obviously the £2 if poss)?!

Hiya - Sorry I jumped straight to Equifax as that is who I use, every year I run a statutory report just to keep a check on everything. I believe Equifax and Experian are different credit agencies but the same info is contained in both. I'm sure somebody more knowledgable than I will be along shortly to explain what the impact of only doing Equifax!!
  • No worries. Sounds like a good idea and for £2, worth doing anyhow. Thanks

There are 3 credit reference agencies - and your information on each of them will be slightly different - depending on which of them each of your creditors and anyone you've applied to credit for reports to (most creditors report to just 1 or 2 of the 3). To get a full picture you'd really need statutory reports from all 3. Although many people start by just gettin experian and equifax as they are the larger 2, with callcredit (noddle) being much smaller.

If you have a Natwest or RBS fee paying account you can view your experian credit report at anytime for free.
