best place to buy a Kindle?

Does anyone know? I want to buy the keyboard (more expensive version) for my daughter for Christmas as it has free 3G. It seems to be the same price on Argos and Amazon (£149).

Now I have heard tales of people saying how brilliant Amazon were when something went wrong with their kindle, and if that is the case, then why is Amazon selling a warranty for about £29? Do I really need to get that?

Also she wants the cover £50 from Amazon FGS! OK it looks nice, I think its leather with a built in light, but again, do I really need to pay this? Or should I just bite the bullet?

Can anyone tell me their experiences with kindle?

I can recommend the Kindle Keyboard 3G - I've bought two this year, one for me and one for my Mum . Mine was actually an upgrade from the new Kindle 4 because I wanted the free 3G.

Personally I wouldn't splash out on the warranty - as you say Amazon are very good at dealing with issues.

And the cover is overpriced... however it's the only one that has such a neat integrated light. Luckily you can buy it refurbished here for £25.67. If you don't particularly need the light, decent covers are available much more cheaply - I have this one for £5.95 inc delivery and am very pleased with it.

As for the Kindle itself... well I've cheated and bought mine in the US where they're much, much cheaper. Unfortunately in the Christmas run-up now it's difficult to find any bargains in the UK. Your best bet may be to enter surveys etc in exchange for Amazon vouchers..?

Not very often I feel the need to comment on these things but last week on hol the top 2/3 of my Kindle screen froze my Wife took it back to Argos where she bought it from last Christmas who immediately said it looked like damage and could only send it for repair at £90 plus postage very annoyed at that .So with nothing to lose I contacted CS who after only a few minutes dispatched me a new one with instructions to return the faulty one within 30 days at their expense .More than happy

You can buy really nice Kindle cases with lights on ebay for under £7.

I have the Kindle keyboard and my husband bought me the leather cover with the light for Christmas, but I have given up using it (the cover that is) because it doubles the weight of the Kindle and I find that I rarely need to use the light anyway.

Also, I bought my Kindle from Tesco but have found the Amazon customer service to be great - they sorted out a problem with my Kindle not finding my WiFi within minutes.

So my advice is to buy the Kindle from Tesco using clubcard vouchers or from Tesco direct using whatever code is around.

Buy a cheap light-weight cover (such as the neoprene zip-up or pocket style) from Ebay or Amazon marketplace and don't bother with the heavy leather cover with the light.
