Massive price rises in Asda!

Thought I would give you a heads up on some of the huge price rises that have happened in Asda in the last few days.

Last week I bought the ingredients for fajitas for tea and returned yesterday to buy them again (we like them :D) to notice huge price rises.

Passata last week was 29p this week is 38p, approx 32% rise
Iceberg lettuce last week was 94p, this week is £1, approx 7% rise
Tortillas, Asda pack of 10, last week £1, this week £1.18, 18% rise
And finally, Old El Paso fajita mix was 59p and is now 80p, approx 36% rise

Overall on these items, it averages at a near 20% price rise on just one meal!!

I honestly cannot see what could justify such huge price rises, other than of course, if they use them in their roll back promotion in a few weeks.

I think they are all playing all sorts of games, as they pretend to lower prices on one front they raise them on another. Sainsburys currently guarantee to match price of branded goods at Asda/Tesco or refund difference by coupon, however at the same time they appear to be putting up the prices on own brand goods...which hits the money savers to help the brandaholics! Dooooh!!

They are all as bad as each other, I think many consumers are now wise to the deception that is now going on
  • Was pretty annoyed to buy two packs of prepared fruit in Asda which were supposed to be reduced because they were out of date on that day, to find that I was being charged considerably more for them than if I had bought two packs with a longer shelf life.

I paid £1.70 per pack at the reduced rate whereas afterwards I found out I could have bought two fresh packs for £3. So I spent 40p more for the privilege of buying old stock! Very annoyed indeed and have written to Asda customer service asking for a refund. I found it difficult to believe to be honest. Neither is their packaging fair. These packs said the original price was £2 each but that was only on the yellow sticker, not on the actual packaging.

I've sent a copy of my receipt as well as a photo of the goods.

Morrisons too. I noticed some incredible price rises the other day. None for items whose ingredients could be said to be expensive, or subject to price rises, either.

It can no longer be assumed that supermarkets are cheaper than independents.

i've noticed this too - and pointed it out to cs staff - they always agree with me that it's daft, but i guess it's something that pays off for them to do so that's why they don't change it. at sainsburys, you used to still get the multibuy saving even if the items were reduced, but haven't used them much recently, so can't say if they still do.

I love reduced multibuys in Waitrose as they go through reduced, and more often than not the amount they theye would take off for the multi buy were the items still full price comes off as well. It does not always work, and you need to be buying other stuff so they do not notice at the till.
