I'm wondering if orzotto is a risotto but made with orzo pasta? We are having mushroom with orzo this week, I love the name orzotto and may have to steal it :-)

Orzotto is a risotto made with barley (orzo is italian for barley) its really yummy and very filling. The recipe is from nigella christmas (I think)

T - Pasta Bake of some sort
    Sunday - Stew

Not planning meals for Friday and Saturday as we never seem to eat them.

Just diving right in and making myself at home on here and dfw board. Need all the help I can get.
That chicken joint I bought says it serves 8-10 so should do us for 3 days if I bulk it out... crossed fingers.
Didn't put anything on for next weekend but Saturday we'll have dinner at my mams house and on Sunday we're at a Christmas party, where we'll be stuffing our faces.

There will be a new Meal Planning thread started on Thursday/Friday... so you just add whichever days work for you depending on your shopping week.

I agree a Chicken for 8 people could easily feed you if bulked out well... I have been known to use just 1 leg and thigh and make a curry with 6 portions.

Good Luck with DD, i am sure you will do well. Remember if you slip off plan every so often it's okay because you managed 5 or 6 of your 7 meals which is 5 or 6 more then before.

Also be flexable and willing to swap and change meals depending on what happens on a particular week. Also if you think a meal will so 5 portions and not the 4 planned, don't overeat, freeze the extra portion and if you keep doing it, you end up with loads of 'ready meals' for those days you are ill or CBA!

I often have 'Freezer LO Meals' or 'If-It' days (if-it = if we have it you can have it, if we don't... you can't!)
We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy!

    Hi everybody,

I don't usually post my meal plans but as Hubby and I are eating from our cupboards and freezer this month I visited this thread for inspiration, so I figure is it's only fair to share my meal plans with you.
    • Sunday 11/12/11 Shepherd's Pie, carrots and green beans/sprouts.
    • Monday 12/12/11 Chicken Cacciatore ( Chicken legs in an Italian-style tomatoes, red pepper and mushroom sauce served on rice)*
    • Tuesday 13/12/11 Spicy Tomatoes and Sausage Pasta *
    • Weds 14/12/11 Chilli con Carne
    • Thursday 15/12/11 Vegetable Lasagne
    • Friday 16/12/11 Hubby working late shift - so I have to fend for myself
    • Saturday 17/12/11 Hubby working late - so I have to fend for myself

This is a basic plan but I hope to substitute some of the planned meals for meals such as Egg & Chips, or Baked Beans on Toast, so I can bump some of the meals into next week, which will hopefully lengthen my store cupboard stock levels and also save some pennies.

    Breakfasts - cereals/porridge or toast
Lunches - Soups or sandwiches, or something on toast eg cheese, or marmite, or sardines
Snacks - Fruit, Homemade Banana Loaf or homemade cookies/biscuits, maybe some Rock Buns.

    Drinks - Tea/coffee/milk/fresh orange juice/smoothies.

    * Menus taken from the resourceful cook website.

I hope this helps anybody else looking for inspiration. :D

  • Lunches will be sandwiches (ham, tuna, cheese and marmite) with apple, banana, HM flapjack, raisins and other dried fruit and nut mix and a refilled squash bottle

Breakfast is usually half a pitta bread each with marmite!

I tend to cook the dogs their meat on a Sunday to last the week - this week they have a roast chicken in the chicken stock mixed with pasta and their biscuits.

I am quite embarrassed to say I have just done a proper meal plan for the first time. I normally just do it from what I can think for us to eat but I have done a proper inventory of everything we have and am making it from that. I have only done until Friday as we might be away at the weekend. We will mainly be eating leftovers and things from the freezer. My aim in the new year was to be less wasteful...well I may as well start now :D

Monday Stirfry chicken left over from roast, stir fry veg, noodles/rice
Tuesday Spaghetti bologanise-we already have the mince in freezer
Wednesday Breaded chicken fillets from freezer
    Thursday Shepherd's pie
    Friday leftover shepherd's pie

Thursday and Friday might be shepherds pie at the moment it depends...how long can you freeze things for i.e. bread/crumpets/meat products? I feel I should know these things and that they are stupid questions but I may as well ask!

    Breakfasts are cereals/toast/crumpets
Desserts are strawberry trifle or fruit with sprinkles/meringue nests/sponge fingers/strawberry sauce

  • OK I have done my plan until christmas as I would like to spend as little as possible in the next 2 weeks.

Mon - Roast Chicken Dinner (ended up at a friends yesterday so I was a quick tea last night)
Tues - Sausage Casserole - In the slow cooker for DH and kids, I am out
Weds - Mexican Chicken Ring, Wedges and Corn - using leftover chicken
Thurs - Shephards Pie and Veg
Fri - Fish Pie and veg
Sat - Curry at Friends - everyone taking a dish
Sun - Roast Stuffed Pork Joint and the trimmings
    Mon - Pork Leftovers
Tues - Creamy garlic chicken Lattice, New potatoes and Italian carrots
Wed - Liver and Bacon Casserole
Thurs - Pancetta and Parmesan Sauages in a tomato sauce and pasta
    Fri - Out with Friends

Lunches this week will be soup made from the chicken
Next week will be leftovers or raiding the cupboards as kids off school
