Work. Me and my husband are both required to work until the 22nd, then the earliest we can fly out would be around the 23rd, but due to needing a loan, I don't believe we would be able to make this in time.

How long do Sainsbury's generally take between receiving an application to paying out a loan? If approved of course?

And also yes. I think I may apply for the loan to be consolidation, and make it look as if I am going to pay off my credit cards, and maybe just put a small minority on them.

Thanks for the replies all, your being a great help!

I believe if it's for consolidation they'd expect you to set up balance transfers instead of them just giving you the money.
This may have changed since the last time I looked into it though.

There's also the question of whether they'd be happy about giving you a loan for debt consolidation, and then you not using it for that purpose...

  • So would you just say apply for a 'personal' loan and see where that gets me?

no they wouldn't expect you to do that, they just need a legitimate reason for money laundering/responsible lending purposes :)

I've not heard of them before, but there's an old MSE thread about them here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/40380018#Comment_40380018

I haven't looked through it myself, but hopefully it will help.
