How can vouchers-for-money have a due date?

This is my first forum post to MSE so I hope I'm posting in the right place.

I have some gift vouchers from a shop which were bought for me a little over 2 years ago.

In the course of a house move I mislaid them and have now found them again. They say in the small print on the back that they expire after 2 years. How can gift vouchers which are bought on a pound for pound basis expire any more than money can? The shop is still in business.

Do I have any rights to argue that the shop should still accept them?

Thanks
Philip

I'd ring up retailer's customer services, and if that got me nowhere write a letter/e-mail to them. From reading previously - although retailers have the right whether to have an expiry date on their vouchers, the questionable part if whether they were made clear at the point of sale, and that is the argument you should base your complaint on from what it gathers. Basically if I didn't know you had to use them asap because it wasn't made clear by the retailer. Good Luck.
