    OP is being untruthful here.

Cialis IS available on prescription, and it sure as hell isn't £8 per tablet - if you pay for prescriptions then you pay the going prescription rate.

    Reason why I know?

SIL is a GP and I've just asked her.

And if you have low blood pressure following heart complications then your GP needs to be questioned...Cialis is one of the worst meds to be given in your position.

Nice try OP, but no gold star. :D

Viagra is certainly a private prescription as is cialis if you have (normal) erectile disfunction. About £26 for 4

If you have some physicall problem that causes the dysfunction then it is available on ordinary prescription.

Maybe your GP relative misunderstood you.

The NHS criteria for cilias is so strict that most men do indeed pay for private prescriptions that are charged at a heck of a lot more than the cost of an NHS prescription.
  • I found this thread because I would like to ask the same question as saxaboogiewoogie. Sadly no one has really been able to help much. This is probably understandable if you have never been in need for such help.

So has anyone bought generic Cialis online and would recommend a website or indeed warn of bad ones. If one requires 2 tablets a week then the savings could be considerable. I have had doctors prescriptions but the cost is £15 per week. Cold showers are cheapest but at a healthy 65 I do not want give up my favourite pleasure. The generic pills are very tempting - but the risks of scams and fraud are daunting.

Maybe if they can be bought using Paypal I would have some protection. Please remember this post is about moneysaving and not medical advice.
  • Generic drugs are same as branded drugs. The only difference is the brand name and popularity. They contain the same ingredient as branded medication. Hence one should prefer to buy generic medicines. They are even available at cheaper prices.

Although this thread is quite old, there is a fair bit of misinformation and judgemental posting on it, so I thought I'd add this to the mix.

Firstly, my advice is always go and see your GP before trying any drugs for ED. It is really important and buying something off the internet without doing this can be quite dangerous.

However once you have the prescription from the GP (like the thread starter), it is safe to take the medication in the doses prescribed. Therefore advising him not to isn't hugely helpful.

Next, you need to know that the vast majority of people (like the thread starter) who go to their GP with this problem will come away with a private prescription not an NHS one. This means that you then have to go to a pharmacy and pay their private rate for the tablets, not the standard NHS charge. The criteria for GPs to prescribe NHS prescriptions for ED are quite narrow, so if you manage to get one, you are perhaps fortunate.

So, the thread starter had a) been to see the GP and b) been given a private prescription.

His question was therefore, finding himself in that position, should he pay £8 per tablet or go for a generic brand at £1 per tablet?

My answer to this is that if you value your health, stick with the branded cialis. Cialis is manufactured under patent by Lillee only. No other drug company in the UK can legally manufacture cialis and no pharmacy can legally sell cialis manufactured by another company. Therefore if you by "generic" cialis (or tadalafil as it is known), then you have to buy a foriegn manufactured drug via the internet from a foriegn supplier both parties having completely unknown quality control processes. Basically god knows what you would be getting. I am sure the vast majority of generic cialis sold is basically OK, but why take the risk.

In the UK, prices of the branded stuff vary considerably. Boots charge £36 for 4x20mg tablets. Superdrug charge only £30. I have yet to find anywhere cheaper.

I find that half a tablet works as well as a full tablet for me. Hence I operate on approx £3.75 per dose. Manageable for me, but your mileage may vary depending on how often you have sex I suppose.

Tadalafil comes out of patent in 2015 (as Viagra did earlier this year). If the supply of generic tablets from other manufacturers follows suit, you can expect the costs of safe generic cialis to be available at about quarter the price of the branded stuff. Only 2 years to go then.

Another thing to consider is talking to your GP about sildenafil (generic viagra) instead. It doesn't last as long as cialis but you can buy safe versions online from UK pharmacies for about £16 for 8x50mg tablets. A much cheaper option.

If the thread starter is still around, I hope that helped.
  • is it safe to buy the generic drug cialis online ..prescribed branded is costing me £8 a tablet but the so called generic equivelent can be bought for around £1 a tablet if bought in bulk does anybody know of a safe bulk buy site too dangerous to mess around with just any web site ther seems to be hundreds out there selling it. i have read the hilary jones artivle on branded verus generic but there is no mention of cials..someone help please i cant afford £8 everytime i want sex.. boo hoo

Cialis is not a generic drug, there is one and only manufacturer - Eli Lilly. It is safe to obtain online ONLY from a fully-registered UK Pharmacy (try searching their pharmacy number on the register for pharmacies) and remember you MUST be asked to fill out a doctors consultation or the option to send your own private prescription prior to be being sent the medication.
